JrJ To support our depot repair mission, it is often necessary to open and close the doors to perform maintenance functions and position support equipment. Several F-- 4 and 6 aircraft must be towed in and out each day. Occasionally, someone may forget to go back and close the doors after a tow job. Please remind the personnel towing the aircraft or performing tasks to close the doors after they are finished. The only people authorized to operate the doors are on a published listing and supervisors monitor the doors to assure compliance. I assure you that the supervisors will make every effort to keep those occasions to the minimum. All position descriptions for maintenance personnel in Bldg. 225 make reference to working conditions being subject to extreme and adverse weather conditions. I would encourage you to dress accordingly, as the hangar doors must be opened periodically. Again, we will make every effort to assure the doors are only opened when mission essential. Probably early next year, federal government workers will be allowed to participate in certain political activities away from their duty location and on their own time. The measure reportedly would permit such activities as stuffing envelopes for a candidate and holding key party jobs, but would still not allow running for elective offices in partisan elections. The final details of the measure will be outlined to.the federal work force after the new law takes effect. In the meantime, federal workers are still yi would like to extend a kudos to SrA. Down-da- y Q blues Why is the Education Office closed on the down-da- y Friday? Recent surveys by the Education and Mili-- J tary Training Offices did not indicate the down Friday is a problem. The surveys also showed that the only down Fridays that are even remotely busy are those just before the start of the term. Opening the office to accommodate one or two individuals who may or may not come in is not cost effective. The Education Office has tried to offset the down Friday by extending daily hours. The office is open Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and every other Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Also, someone is always available during the lunch hour. It is especially gratifying to me when members take j the time to commend the efforts of those people who are responsible for the well being of our residents in the Hill community. The Civil Engineering and Housing staffs are justifiably recognized for their consistent professionalism and excellence in the areas of customer service and satisfaction. I applaud the employees in both organizations, and in this case, a special thanks goes to Mr. Waite of the Base Housing Office and Mr. Woodward and Sergeant Johnson of the Pavements and Equipment Operations Unit in Civil Engineering, who all went the extra mile to support you during the flooding situation at your home. |
