Seven workers combined to design a new adapter to hold down a flux valve while calibration and adjustments are accomplished. They are: Michael J. McCoy, Harold D. Sherrod, Margie L. Opheikens, George W. Sharkey and Emma H. Davies, instrument mechanics; Roger D. Thomas, ordnance mechanic; and Bennett L. Clow, instrument mechanic foreman, from the Commodities Direc- As a result of Wright's suggestion, the Air Force will save $55,700 and he was awarded $2,371. Wayne K. Sugimoto, railroad repair foreman in the 649th Civil Engineering Squadron, noticed tree limbs, wood chips, sawdust, leaves, grass clippings and horse manure were loaded into dump trucks and hauled to the land fill at a cost of $50 per ton. He suggested the base purchase a manure spreader to enable the unit to utilize the manure and other refuse as fertilizer in the spring and fall. As a result of the suggestion, the Air Force will save $16,500 and Sugimoto received $1,220. Others who profited from their suggestions were: torate. Aircraft Directorate The crew had noted that since implementation of flux valves used on the Induction the Compass Transmitters, which are used on various Air Force and Navy aircraft, the old method of attaching the valve to the holding fixture resulted in a failure rate of 95 percent. So, the team designed a teflon swivel hold down adapter to hold the valve secure while the necessary operations are completed. Because the movement was causing the failures, this new adapter has virtually eliminated the flux valve failures. As a result of the suggestion, the Air Force will save $55,361 and the suggesters received $2,361 to share equally. L. Ray Wright, an equipment specialist in LI, noticed that 8 and F--5 aircraft outer cylinders were being condemned due to wear and deep scratches in the upper bore. The upper bores were being gouged by pins in the piston head, which vibrated when the aircraft was landing. Wright proposed the piston head be turned 90 degrees so the pins would face a different direction; thus, the vibration would be absorbed by the piston rather than the pins. non-calibrat- LAC: Eric R.
