(AFNS) -YF-2prototype aircraft crashed at Edwards AFB about 4:20 p.m. April 25 as the pilot was completing a practice approach over the An Air Force Program. This phase of the flight test was to validate engineering design models as part of the development of the EMD test aircraft scheduled for delivery in 1995. Air Force officials said they have no plans at this time to conduct additional flight testing until first flight of the in 1995. The YF-2- 2 prototype had accomplished more than 90 percent of the flight testing objectives while flyof the flight ing about hours and sorties that had been budgeted during this limited test period. The testing was to have been completed in May. The 2 is the next air superiority fighter designed to replace the 5 Eagle in the 21st century. It will become operational in 2002. Two prototypes were constructed as a part of the demonstration-validatio- n phase. The second prototype, minus its engines, is being stored at Air Force Plant 6 in Marietta, Ga. 2 runway.
