The teens answered the Hill AFB Family Support Center's search for summer volunteers. The summer "volunteen" program, initiated in the mid '80s by the Family Services coordinator, Pia Jarman, has grown from seven teenagers volunteering their time and energies at Family Services to this summer's record of more than ' ; w And 'accprdjs'to'';bne?yolunteen, , those goals are being met. "You learn how to handle difficult situations, you face new challenges aftd you get to meet lots of wonderful new people," said Dana RacTfcasir a volunteen in the Public Affairs Office, and this week's Hill AFB , : Volunteen of the Week. Interested young people, ranging in age from 1 1 to 1 7 years old, filled out applications, interviewed and are working in 30 different offices and agencies around the : Averaging 20 hours a week, it is estimated that during the program, they will have contributed more than 11,000 hours of their time in support of Hill's mission. Based on the minimum wage rate, they will have donated more than $41,000 of time and service, Ms. 10-we- ek . Wiggins said. Capt. Russell Wainwright, of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing propulsion branch, said of the program, "I fully supported it from the start.
