Show .FAREWELL June Dug 1, 1990 L? ( Wing commander leaves after more than two yea rs work with, not only in the wing, but throughout the Ogden Air Logistics Center and other tenant units. When so many people focus on getting the job done without worrying about credit or blame, there's no limit to what can be done." g That attitude wing members have shown led the 388th to a favorable rating in the last Operational Readiness Inspection and a successful conversion to the new CD Block 40 model. "The ORI and conversiorThave been the toughest challenges we've faced during my tenure. Both of them took considerable planning, hard work and, most importantly, teamwork by a lot of different organizations to bring them off successfully," he said. The colonel also commented regarding some of the technical challenges associated with 6 modifications. "We wouldn't have been able to meet those challenges without the good relationship we've had with the engineers employed by the ALC. By working together, we've made the 6 abetter airplane." v Looking to the future, Colonel Heflebower said he's already anticipating some new challenges in his position at the Pentagon. He said with the defense budget he'll have plenty of work on the Air Staff, particularly within Programs and Resources. Although he'll be far away from Hill and the 388th TFW, he's quick to point out the memories of Utah that he'll carry with him for a long time. Now another photograph has been added that of Col. Charles R. Heflebower, the wing's commander since April 21, 1988. He assumed the position after serving as the vice commander since August 1987. The colonel will relinquish command to Col. Michael Navarro Thursay at 2 p.m. on the flight-lin- e side of Hangar 43 in a ceremony officiated Gen. Peter T. Kempf, 12th Air Force Lt. by commander. Colonel Heflebower is heading to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., for a new assignment as deputy director for bases and units under the deputy chief of staff for Programs and Resources. With less than one week left at Hill AFB, he sat down to share some of his thoughts on the wing, his time at Hill and the men and women he has had the opportunity to work. with. "There are several aspects to life at Hill that will make this tour very memorable," he said. "First, of course, are the superb people I got to 6 - air! K 'Jh . From the people to the location to the aircraft and the mission, I can't imagine a more gratifying assignment. Both (my wife) Susan and I will miss Utah and the Hill Field family."
