Hilltop Times staff writer " ' """"" .1 Changes at the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education Center will create the ideal learning environment, center officials said. ; Improvements to Bldg. 835, the center's home, include building an auditorium, expanding classrooms and remodeling the offices of faculty and staff. "Students spend a lot of time here during the month they attend classes and the changes are designed to make things better for them," said MSgt. Kenneth McClure, commandant of the school. Construction of the auditorium is scheduled to begin in September. It will seat 79 people and measure 50 feet long by 31 feet wide, extending from the center of the building as a third wing. Also featured will be an audiovisual booth, a viewing booth and nine levels of lighting. Everything is state of the art, said TSgt. Sandi Tenboer, director of education at the center. The classroom expansion will extend two of the center's three seminar rooms 10 feet. Desks will be to take better advantage of arranged in a a the space, and lectern will be added, she said. The third seminar room will become the new office. The must stay on office is for because 24 current and the hours, duty so small, there is not enough room to separate living quarters and office space. The new office will allow for more privacy, said Sergeant McClure. Instructors now spend six to eight hours in the classroom and an additional four to six hours in their offices. Team teaching will cut the time teachers are in the classroom to three to six hours, freeing them to work on other duties such as upgrading curriculum, said Sergeant Tenboer. "It also exposes students to a better variety of teaching styles," she said. Classroom expansions should be complete by Aug. 1, but work on the individual staff offices is nearly complete. Staff offices were redone as projects. Ceilings were lowered to provide for better heating and cooling, and improved lighting was installed. Staff members personalized their offices, selecting their own color scheme, wallpaper and carpet, Sergeant Tenboer said. Another change in the center will be moving the NCO prepatory leadership classroom to the current lecture hall. This will give the 33 students in the course much-neede- d additional space. The current NCO prep course classroom will become office space, allowing all administration offices to be in one wing. "When things started happening, they happened fast," said Sergeant McClure. self-hel- p prize-winne- rs by Debbie Christiansen y p A' ay two-semin- ar self-hel- p LOANS LOANS LOANS LOANS LOANS LOANS SIGNATURE LOANS 100-050- 0 OGDEN.
