Show NEWS July 14, 1989 5 Hilltop Times DislhribwlHioini dliiredtoir moves McGlelleum on fl by Gary Hatch Hilltop Times editor Col. Donald C. Bulloch doesn't hesitate a second naming what he'll miss most about Hill AFB. It's the people. "This is a marvelous place," the colonel said. "The people here are dedicated, professional and patri- hard-workin- g, otic," he said. But people are not all that caught Colonel Bulloch's attention during his three year and one month stay at the 'V base., "The Utah scenery is unlike any : other place. There's none to compare," he said. He not only likes the diversity of terrain, but mentioned views across the lake at sunset are spectacular. Today is the colonel's final duty day as director of the Directorate of Distribution. He spent his first 20 months stationed at Hill as chief of the science and technology division in the Directorate of Materiel Management. His new station will be at McClellan AFB, Calif., to run the aircraft division in the Directorate of Maintenance. Some of the highlights of Colonel Bulloch's stay here include improving the quality of life on the base and giving technology a push in the right . direction.. The quality of life improvements the colonel has been happy to see are the self-hel- p projects that have improved the office space and break areas, along Vttt ft : W?:' GERMAN " with the addition of modular furniture. The colonel was instrumental in bringing a symposium of speakers to the base to discuss the rapid technological improvements today. That led to a study group, and eventually to a new program on base that monitors the technology available and plans how to move Hill forward based on new technology. The colonel also pointed to the completion of numerous difficult air munitions and ground support equipment mobilization operations without in juries. "The pieces of equipment that have to be moved weigh many tons and the potential for injury is extremely high," Colonel Bulloch said. Inspection support through the Transportation Control Unit, which organizes and runs all the aircraft when a unit has to mobilize, was another high point for the colonel as were the Employee Appreciation Day lunches that were carried out, both in MME and DS. The colonel's biggest challenge here was to learn what he needed to know about distribution. "I had no experience in distribution before I came here, and that was probably my biggest challenge here at Hill. "But I think I learned a lot about distribution from the professionals who work here. "They provided the expertise, and I thought we were very successful in our inspections because of their expertise," Colonel Bulloch said. ? v WW U.S. Air Force Photo Colonel Bulloch The local scenery, outstanding work force at Hill and his jobs on base are some of Col.
