Padgett Personnel Division Five civilian members here were recently named to receive Ogden Air Logistics Center Distinguished Equal Employment Opportunity Awards for fiscal 1986. L. Burke Larsen, Sheldon E. Kendall, Julian Martinez, Pamela V. Wixom and Armando Ender-l-e will represent this center in award competition at Air Force Logistics Command-levecompeting with members from other centers. They will also be recognized with local awards. Two other civilian members were selected for honorary awards for their contributions to the EEO program. Beatrice Cota and Guillermo Duron will receive certificates. Mr. Larsen, a supervisory logistics management specialist in the Directorate of Materiel Management, will compete in the Management Action category for the AFLC title. l, V ttWif nJ17 . Evidences of his compassion and empathy for his employees were demonstrated by his concern for one of his employees who suffered from a potentially fatal liver disease and required a transplant. Realizing her need to work to keep up her morale and courage, through a combination of annual, sick and leave without pay she was able to work continuously until the transplant became available. Through his compassion, he allowed the employee to work well beyond a time when others would have been medically discharged. His other noteworthy achievement during the reporting period was his concern regarding smoking in his building. He called a forum of all employees to discuss the issue and express their views with union officials and d apmanagement. The result was a emof to satisfaction the issue the resolve to proach ployees, union officials and management. Sheldon E. Kendall, Directorate of Information Systems, will compete in the Supervisory Action category. He received the Hill honor developing a directorate Affirmative Action Policy and Plan. He also sets an example for implementing the plan within his own division. In fiscal 1986 he filled 36 percent of his vacancies of GS-1positions with women, opposed to a directorate total of 16 percent.
