CHECKS IN Prior service reservists 1 must waif for commissary 66- r Air Force reservists can use their leave and earnings statements to shop at base exchanges, but if they try using their LES to enter commissaries they are in for a disappointment, officials report from the 419th Consolidated Base Personnel Office. "The Air Force Reserve uses a commissary earnings statement, not an LES, as proof of entitlement to shop in the commissary," said CBPO superintendent, CMSgt. Phil Vanek, 419th Tactical Fighter locally-produce- shop, a reservist needs the commissary statement and red identification card. To CMSgt. Phil Vanek CBPO superintendent d Wing point of contact for the program. Today, under a new law which went into effect March 30, reservists and family members are allowed to shop anytime during the year, up to 14, days, based on the number of active duty days for training the reservist performed the previous fiscal year. Previously, reservists could only shop on days they actually performed active duty for training. Chief Vanek explains that members coming from active duty seem the most confused about the commissary entitlements as new reservists. "If a 99 reservist begins his parin ticipation July and pulls 14 days of active duty before Sept. 30, commissary use will begin in January 1988 when the commissary statements are prior-servic- e issued. "To shop, a reservist needs the commissary statement and his or her red identification card. "Authorized dependents also need the statement but can use any photo ID, such as a state driver's license, to shop," he said. Officials headquartered at 10th Air Force advise that changes in the 1988 implementation are being staffed to fine tune the new benefit and instructions should be forthcoming later this fall. headttUp is a reserve supplement to the Hill Top Times and is published by MorMedla, Inc., a private firm in no way connected with the U.S. Air Force, urn der exclusive written contract with the Ogden ALC Public Affairs Office.
