According to estimates by Scotty Wilson, chief, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division, almost 3,000 military members and their families flocked here to celebrate independence with parades, games, demonstrations, food and all-da- music. Kay Volk, of the MWR Division, called the day a success. "It seemed like a nice, relaxing celebration, whether people wanted to sit down and watch or get up and participate. There were just dozens of things to do," she said. Games ranged anywhere from volleyball, egg tosses and softball to pitch, hit and run competitions. Members of the 2849th Security Police Squadron put on a military dog demonstration and karate experts showed their skills during afternoon activities at Centennial tug-of-wa- r, 1 r 7. X CP m If 1 ' h. ' I Park. Appetites were quenched with a "good ol' chicken dinner," including potato salad, corn on the cob, rolls and watermelon. Popcorn and snow cones were handed out free throughout the day. The only thing missing was the dunking booth, which, fortunately for the scheduled dunkees, was out of commission on Saturday. Music by Freeway Band ended celebrations by early evening, in time for families to get home and prepare for fireworks shows held elsewhere in the local area.
