Ogden ALC Dlnl(S 1 Jay Joersz Public Affairs Office The nearly full house at the Noncommissioned Officers' Club at Hill AFB June 25 got the show of their lives as martial arts experts from around the area demonstrated their unique skills with their hands and feet along with assorted weapons. The evening started off with two members of the Layton Karate Acadetechmy performing two Then students from niques. O&M's Hap Kwon Do in Sunset displayed their talents using their hands and feet as weapons. Next the two pulled out real weapons one armed himself with a samurai sword while the other fought him off with an Oriental fan. The next demonstrations even called for a volunteer from the audience to lie down on the floor and place a watermelon on his stomach. Then, a blindfolded blackbelt expert self-defen- S se lrQDl h'aff ft he m I Oyb IMC sliced the melon in half with a samurai sword. Luckily, no medic was needed and the volunteer was awarded the sliced melon. The final event was Olympic style teamfighting. The Hill AFB Black Belt Karate Association, otherwise known as JC's Wreckin' Crew, won 0 O 4 the event. The winning team consisted of Wayne Freeman, second degree black belt; James Calloway, third degree black belt; Tyrone Aranda, second degree black belt; Mark Saunders, advanced brown belt; Lisa LaFountain, advanced blue belt; Brian Guodraeux, first degree black belt; Aleta Sneed, red belt and Michael Lawrence, first degree black belt. "The club was good about setting it up to make it comfortable for us. We hope to hold another one soon," he added. PRO TIP: Hubbard Memorial Golf Course Hill AFB 1 I I J A helpful practice variation you can use to improve your tempo and help you develop a sense of distance would be to try and hit your seven, eight and nine irons the same distance. If you hit your nine iron 1 30 yards, try to hit your eight iron at the same 1 30 yards and then the seven iron the same distance. It is not as easy as you might think, but it is a great practice drill.
