Show HILL TOP TIMES Friday, July 29, 1983 1 f7 Tops in Blue slopes performance The annual tour of Tops in Blue has scheduled a performance Aug. 9 at the Clearfield High School auditorium, 938 South 1000 East, at 7:30 p.m. Tops in Blue is the all Air Force entertainment showcase which annually tours worldwide under the auspice of Headquarters Air Force Manpower and Personnel Center, Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation. Tops in Blue cast members are selected from more than 250 talent contest finalists at the Air Force Worldwide Talent Contest held annually. These 250 in turn were selected from literally thousands who competed in base level and command level contests all over the world. Once at Worldwide, contestants are subjected to extensive competition, interviews, and auditions lasting more than a week. At the end of this exhaustive process, the Tops in Blue candidates are chosen. These candidates, however, are a long way from being Tops in Blue. That is accomplished in a month of rigorous rehearsal at Lackland AFB, Texas, under the direction of Tom Edwards, Chief of Air Force Entertainment. Out of the ferment of sessions, both the theme and the content of the show develop. USAF PRODUCTION Pay section si reamliines travel requests procedures The Travel Pay Section of the Accounting and Finance Office here is streamlining their procedures and the week of Aug. 2 travel requests need to follow special guidelines. Anyone on base with travel business that week is asked to schedule it for Aug. Only emergency business will be processed Aug. Ogden Air Logistics Center is the third center to switch to the Automated Travel RecordAccounting System. This conversion increases the unit's use of existing computer systems and eliminates manual record keeping processes. Currently they keep track of travel accounts for various organizations on the base computer system. ATRAS will expand this to include individual travel records. 8-1- 8-1- 0. 11-1- 2. This eh'minates the card file which shows each time a military or civilian employee travels and how much money was received. It will combine this process with the accounting procedures. This will help the Travel Section keep track of the travel vouchers and the followup, which is done manually now. "With this many it's difficult to do a followup." The computer system will automatically provide and pull out the lists on who is delinquent in filing vouchers. "We hope we can give travelers faster service at the counter with the ATRAS system," said Betty Jensen, team chief overseeing the conversion. "With the new system we will use three times the computer capabilities we've used in the past," she said. "Accuracy on the travel orders will be vital to utilizing the new system," she said.
