The developmental motor is called the Improved Performance Space Motor and is designed to deliver up to 18,000 pounds of thrust d in a period. It contains 7,200 pounds of solid rocket propellant and is 63 inches in diameter. The IPSM can be deployed in space from the space shuttle, and it could have military and commercial applications.
