Show HILL TOP TIMES Page 12 Airmen October 24, 1980 quarter honored off Three individuals selected as Outstanding Airmen of the Quarter for the period July 1 through Sept. 30 were honored during a ceremony and awards breakfast at the NCO Open Mess Wednesday. Brig. Gen. A. Paul Bruno, Ogden ALC vice commander, presented the awards to TSgt. Larry L. Smith, Sgt. Gordon M. Van Vleet and SrA. Laura M. Whetstone. Outstanding career NCO Sergeant Smith, Outstanding Career NCO of the Quarter, is an instructor at the NCO Leadership School. He teaches all areas of the curriculum which includes world affairs, leadership and management, communicative skills and military studies. Sergeant Smith was nominated because he "is a superb instructor and professional NCO with proven executive impressive capabilities." The nomination also stated, "By displaying unique job knowledge, he assisted in completing an extensive self study of the school which was immediately accepted by the Community College of the Airs -- " Force." Communications Squadron and the section historian. He was nominated because "through his initiative he has been instrumental in planning and implementing methods to simplify the daily work requirements and has revised the unit clearance sheet to cover many important items desired by the new incoming personnel and needs of the Air Force." Airman Whetstone, Outstanding Airman of the Quarter, is a HH-5- 3 helicopter crew chief for the 6514th Test Squadron and performs all troubleshooting, maintenance and form documentation in conjunction with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, technical orders and modifications on her aircraft. She was nominated for the award because "she has performed her duties as crew chief in an absolutely superior manner. During a recently completed Air Launched Cruise Missile test program, her aircraft achieved a 100 percent operational ready rate in support of the mission." fit Airman Whetstone was promoted to senior airman below the zone and is currently enrolled at Weber State College and is working toward an associate degree with the Community College of the Air Force. ' Sergeant Van Vleet, Outstanding First Term NCO of the Quarter, is an administrative specialist in the 1881st ' Building 220 houses the scheduling and painting units In the Directorate of Main- tenance. It burns 101,253 kilowatt hours and has an electric bill of $2,936 each month. People employed In the building are aware of the energy conservation effort here and are doing their best to conserve.
