What's more, the Symphony is offering a dollar discount to Hill military and civilians on all tickets for the performance. DISCOUNTED TICKETS are available the Recreation Ticket Office, Bldg. at Regular tickets are also available at the Symphony Box Office, 55 West 1st South in Salt Lake or at the ticket booth located outside the south gate of Temple Square one hour before the concert. One of the Metropolitan Opera's star baritones, Robert Merrill is known to millions through his countless performances on opera and concert stages as well as through his frequent appearances on television and at major music festivals. MERRILL FIRST became known as a singer whose voice represented the American people when he was chosen to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" for a patriotic film shown during World War II. Mr. Merrill will sing a selection from Verdi's "II Trovatore" and the Chorale will perform the Anvil Chorus from the same opera. The Utah Chorale will join the orchestra in the chorus from the finale of Act II of Verdi's "Aida" and the Polovetsian Dances from Borodin's "Prince Igor." Proceeds from this concert will be used by the Symphony as matching funds for its Challenge grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mellon Foundation. AAFES OFFICIALS said smoke alarms have been reduced to net cost plus a small charge for handling. On sale are ionization-typ- e units that make up 80 per cent of sales in the smoke detector market. To meet the expected demand, extra quantities of smoke detectors have been ordered. If the supply temporarily runs out, AAFES will issue rain checks to customers.
