This year's vaccine has arrived and hospital officials say preparations are complete for the mass immunization program. AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS, the Flu Immunization Program enjoys very strong medical and command support. The Chief of Staff and Surgeon General have emphasized the importance of 100 per cent immunization against influenza to avoid the potential loss of mission effectiveness in the event of an epidemic outbreak among the military population. 3 AFR further states that these immunizations are mandatory unless medical authorities determine that a clearly defined and properly documented medical contraindication exists. preferably through a as R, CONTRARY TO A MUCH expressed belief, a vaccine made up of "killed" viruses cannot give you the flu. The inoculation of antigens prepared from the inactivated or "killed" influenza virus stimulates the production of specific antibodies in the recipient. Protection is then provided against those specific strains of viruses and closely related strains. Thereafter, for about a year, if you are exposed to those influenza viruses, you are either immune or will get only a brief, very mild form of the flu. mini-appointme- THIS VACCINE WILL NOT be given to pregnant personnel Following is the flu shot schedule: 1-- Place 2849th ABG (all 1881st Comm.
