She is the first woman to assume chairmanship of the chapter and during the sixty year history of all ASM chapters in the United States, is the fourth woman chairman. Miss Gustin is a native of Utah, reared in the Central Utah mining town of Eureka. She graduated from Tintic High School in 1959 where she received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award in Chemistry, the first such honor given to a Tintic High School senior in twenty years. In 1967 she started working at the Base Physical Science Laboratory, where she established a program to analyze the F-- 4 fighter aircraft integral wing fuel tanks for microbiological contamination.
