Like every other weekend, the Transient Alert area of the base is rapidly filling up with Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force aircraft from bases all over the country. It happens at Hill every weekend! Why? What makes Hill Air Force Base so special? aircraft Station, Pensacola, Florida, reports one of his on a cross country instrument training mission experienced a loss of oil pressure shortly after departure from Hill recently. The emergency required the aircraft to return to Hill for repairs. He said, "Within minutes the transient services division identified the problem area, placed a call for assistance, and, after an extremely short period of time, four employees, two engine repairmen and two machinists, arrived Self centered? Not at all! Pure pride? You bet! A quick chat with any transient pilot will verify what Olsen says. And the amazing thing is, the pilots tell it almost verbatim as Olsen tells it. As near as is known, the HAFB trans alert section has received the Rex Riley Award for outstanding transient service for the past 13 consecutive years. We think that may well be a record. He went on to say that because of their efforts the Navy aircraft was able to continue its assigned mission. According to Terry Olsen of the Transient Alert Section, "We do! Because we provide the best damned transient service, the quickest turn arounds, and with the able assistance of POL crews, the quickest refuel in the U.S. Air Force! " And the mail just keeps on coming! From Florida, Arizona, California, Nebraska, Nevada and most, if not all, the other states where military aviation is based. The pride and dedication takes place all week long, not just on the weekends. Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, everyone of the Trans Alert employees displays continual pride. Letters from pilots and commanders from all over the country praise the HAFB facility. Robert R. Shadbolt, section supervisor, trans alert section, has quite a few pounds of them to prove that and like Terry Olsen, is proud and always glad to let someone read them. Trans International Airlines, or as they are better known around Hill, LOGAIR, has also added its praise. Wrote one TIA pilot: "I have been flying out of Hill for many years. Not only are your services the best, but all personnel I have come in contact with are a credit to this installation and the Air Force. Thanks to your support, we may reflect an on time schedule for 1 f Air Force The U.S. Army Reserve has jumped on the bandwagon too! In a 1976 letter to then Hill commander Col. Howard J. Anderson, Brig. Gen. Franklin L. McKean, then commander of Headquarters, 96th U.S. Army Reserve Command at Fort Douglas, Utah, extended his command's appreciation to the TA section for their "timely and stellar performance of duty." e, Transient Alert Capt.
