Bellon Joanna Rothe and her third grade class at American Heritage School, made a difference this week by donating newborn reading read-ing kits to American Fork Hospital's newborn nursery. Mrs. Rothe was made aware of a contest that the Book-It program, teamed with Marc Brown and Make . a Difference Day, was sponsoring. spon-soring. She applied for a grant from Wal-Mart in connection con-nection with the contest and was awarded $500. Her idea was to provide ; newborns and their mothers moth-ers with a 'reading kit,' as well as an incentive to "welcome "wel-come new babies with presents pres-ents of books. Begin their love of reading." Her kit would include an "Arthur" book by Marc Brown, a T-shirt saying, "Little Reader" and a certificate cer-tificate stating, "2000 I was read to within the first 12 hours of my life at American Fork Hospital" and the certificate was signed by the third grade class. A reading list of classic books for young readers was included. This project's purpose was to inform and encourage parents to read to their children from an early age. Mrs. Rothe and her students stu-dents put the packets together and personally delivered them to American Fork hospital. One nurse at American Fork who passed out the first kit to a new mother said, "These are great. The mother thought it was really cute." National Make a Difference Day was Oct. 28 and the entire third grade class at American Heritage was proud that they could make a difference in the r lives of babies born in our community. PGHS to host Mr. Viking Pageant Nov. 9 The Mr. Viking Pageant will be held at Pleasant Grove High School on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. "This is like a Homecoming Queen pageant," pag-eant," said Elaine Littleford, organizer of this event. Twelve contestants will be participating and will be judged on their talent, tal-ent, talk, and modeling. These young men, all seniors in high school, are taking a part of this annual; event as a fundraising opportunity for the Vikettes. 2 x Cab cade Shadowh PLANT no. utah cowry's: cniw full, line & GARDEN CENTER 383 S. 500 E.
