Show r Pleasant Grove Review New Utah! - Wednesday, May 10, 2000 - Page 6 Capt. Raymond Ormond retires from Utah Air National Guard Missionaries to speak in Sunday Services Capt. Raymond S. Ormond, son of Hannah Ormond of Pleasant Grove and the late Raymond D. Ormond, retired from the Utah Air National Guard on May 7 after 22 years of military service. He enlisted in the Army on Feb. 27, 1970, for three years and served as a tank commander comman-der at Fort Knox, Ky. and in West Germany, attaining the rank of Sergeant. From 1974 to 1977, he was a member of the 1457th Combat Engineers at American Fork, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After a break in service, he re-enlisted in the Utah Air National Guard's 109th Air Control Squadron. He received an officer's commission and performed the duties of an Air Weapons Controller, directing . numerous training sorties of fighters, air tankers and ground attack aircraft in America and Europe. Throughout his career, his wife of 30 years, Connie Fae (Fordham), and his four sons, Tyran, 29; SSG Wayne, 26; Airman Michael, 22; and Elder Raymond, 19, in Zimbabwe, Africa, on an LDS mission; have been the best co-pilot and crew anyone could ever have. Elder Kevin Ryan Gurr, son of Kevin and LaNona Gurr of Pleasant Grove, has been called to serve in the Russia Samara LDS Mission. He will speak in a sacrament sacra-ment service Sunday, May 14, at 10:20 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove 5th Ward, 275 E. 500 South. Elder Gurr will enter the Missionary Training Center on May 17. Cameron L. Jarman Elder Cameron Lee Jarman, son of Doyle and Kimberly Jarman of Pleasant Grove, has been called to serve in the West Indies LDS Mission. Parker, son of Bill and Rusty Parker, received his Eagle Scout award May 6 in a special Eagle Court of Honor held at the Highland 2nd Ward Chapel, Caleb is a member of Troop 822, sponsored by the Highland 2nd Ward. For his Eagle service project, Caleb made math, manipulative manipula-tive boards for Mountain Ridge Junior High School. The math .boards are helpful in teaching math concepts to junior high school students. Caleb has also participated in American Fork and Lone Peak marching bands and is a member of the German club. Berneice Wadley to celebrale 90th birthday May 1 1 Berneice Atkinson Wadley will celebrate her 90th birthday birth-day at a family party. - She was born May 11, 1910, to Thomas A. and Nora Pace Atkinson in Francis, Utah. She "attended schools in Summit County and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1928. She married Nyal F. Wadley on June 17, 1931, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of five children: Doris Jorgensen, Don F. Wadley, Jack E. Wadley, Nyla Yeoman (deceased) and Jordan Peterson Jordan Peterson recently received his Eagle Scout award. He is a member of Troop 8755 of the North Field 2nd Ward in Pleasant Grove. His parents are Ron and Bonnie Peterson. Jordan , is , a . sophomore 'at Pleasant Grove High School where he is active in football and is on the honor roll. For his Eagle service project, Jordan worked with the Division of Wildlife Resources in organizing and planting 6000 trees for revegetation for wildlife winter range foraging in Spanish Fork Canyon. - I .,, ,. .,,,,, wnr ..,. , ,. Curtis Allred Curtis James Allred, son of Clinton and Camille Allred of Lindon, received his Eagle Scout award April 25 in a Court of Honor. He is a member of Troop 1181, sponsored by the Lindon 13th Ward. For his Eagle service project, he secured landscaping ties for a border around pathways in the garden area at Utah State Developmental Center. Curtis is a seventh grade student at Oak Canyon Junior High School. Scouting has been a big part of Curtis' life and achieving his Eagle before he turned 13 was a major goal he accomplished. The Eagle was earned two weeks before his 13th birthday. Ted Hess Ted Hess, son of Tim and Suzanne Hess of Alpine, received his Eagle Scout award May 7 in a Court of Honor. He is a member of Troop 689, sponsored by the Alpine 9th Ward. For his Eagle service project, he organized his troop to clean up a campground near Little Valley. The original Pony Express trail passes right through the middle of the campground. They cleaned up, restored and reestablished about 30 rock fire rings. Ted is an eighth grader at Mountain Ridge Junior High School. He plays the drums at Mountain Ridge and serves as the Webelos Den Chief. Benjamin Parker Benjamin C. Parker, son of Bill and Rusty Parker, received his Eagle Scout award May 6 in a special Eagle Court of Honor held at the Highland 2nd Ward Chapel, Benji is a member of Troop 822, sponsored by the Highland 2nd Ward. For his Eagle service project, Benji made Braille books for blind children. Benji, with members of his troop, collated Braille pages with written pages of various story books. After collating they bound the books with a plastic binding. Benji is an eighth grade student stu-dent at Mountain Ridge Junior High School where he is a member of the Symphonic Band and is an honor student. The Pleasant Grove Library R.E.A.D. book group will meet again this Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Keith Christeson Little Theatre. Jane Robinson will give a presentation on the influence of women in the lives of famous artists and writers. Jane's readings read-ings are very popular and worthwhile.
