Two bronze statues created by Alpine sculptor Dennis Smith are scheduled to be presented to the country of Denmark in separate sepa-rate ceremonies during the first week of July. Elder Russell M. Kenide VanOrden, daughter of Clark and Holly VanOrden, was riding a tricycle in the driveway dri-veway of a house a few doors down from her own when she was struck by a pick-up truck backing away from the residence resi-dence at 596 N. 1570 West at about 2:30 p.m. Captain Cody Cullimore of the Pleasant GroveLindon Public Safety Dept. said the driver was 56-year-old Mark Neilsen of Lehi. "This was a tragic accident, the driver was not cited for anything." Neilsen did not see the child as he was backing away from the residence. The driver stopped immediately upon hearing a noise from under his vehicle. Ambulance crews from Pleasant Grove EMS responded respond-ed and transported the victim to the American Fork Hospital. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital. Cullimore advises all drivers to "be cautious when you are around children." The public safety department depart-ment will meet with the neighborhood neigh-borhood later this week to talk to the children and to teach bicycle safety. I Doctor to retire after 4 1 years in PI.
