Miller is employed by Waterford School in Sandy as the facility support team leader. His duties include assisting teachers and training bus drivers. Although employed by the private school, he says he supports sup-ports public education. If there wasn't public education, it would be almost impossible to educate the population, he said. Not everyone is either capable or willing to attend private schools and it's critical to edu cate the general public. Moran is a software engineer at Novell, Inc. and has a master's mas-ter's degree in psychology. He worked for the district for three years previously. He became involved in school issues in 1998 when elementary school boundaries were changed in northeast Orem, and realizes the influence school boards have. He believes people need to be involved in what local school boards are doing but says a lot of the people don't have the time, or are not willing to take the time to become involved. Smith is a self-employed education consultant in both higher and public education. Most of his clients are higher education institutions. In addition addi-tion to problems of growth and funding, he wants to look at traffic problems. Thompson taught elementary elemen-tary school for 13 years in the district and feels this gives her an advantage to work with the board and understand the needs of teachers and students. She said she has the ability to solve problems and see both sides of an issue. She believes as a society, public schools are needed but that there are ways the system can be improved.
