Show i : i .$1 i ! & EX30D Did you ever have your new car snatched right out from under your nose? Well sir, that's what happened to ye editor last Wednesday morning morn-ing in broad daylight in our The 76 and 77 season of Ban-tam Ban-tam Basketball opened December 21 and 22nd. The season's openers were very exciting with some of the teams looking very polished for their first game. The Bantam Ban-tam program expanded to 15 teams for the Am. Fork and Alpine cities for 76 and 77. Jerry McGuie will coach the newest team which will be known as the Bees. The program is broken down into two Ieagues-the Northern and Central with eight teams in the Northern and seven teams in the Central. The two top teams from each league will go into region play at the end of the regular 14 game season. Opening round action last week saw the very good looking look-ing Pistons give the brand new but very determined Bees a welcome into the league. The Pistons looked very strong with big guns like Bud Swen-son, Swen-son, Regan Hansen and Steve Monsen. The smooth play and quick thinking of the Pistons was just too much for the Bees Pistons 51, Bees, 24. The Utahns and Bulls started start-ed the season off on the right foot with an overtime game. The Bulls new coach Dennis Peck said he coudn't stand .very many ball games like that one. The Bulls ed " throughout most of the game. Dallin Alridge, the fine Utahn's guard, tied the game and had a second foul shot for the win, bul the ball woudn't drop, and a three-minute overtime over-time took place. The overtime play belonged all to the Bulls as they took control and put the game out of reach for the Utahn-Bulls 36, Utahns 28. The very excited and fired up Rams ran right smack into the lions den as they met the very power-packed Kings. The Rams held their own in the first quarter, but then the very impressive looking Kings really real-ly got going and the Rams just couldn't slow them down. The King's Don Smith poured in 26 points and had at least 15 rebounds. From the look of the King's first game, they could very well be the team to beat. The Stars handed the Alps their first loss in over 25 games as the Alps just couldn't seem to stop the good foul shooting of Jay Holmstead or keep from making too many mistakes. Both teams looked very good at times and very flat at other times, but the Stars made the least mistakes--Stars, 39 and Alps 29. The Lions and Hawks really tangled as they fought to the buzzer for the game. The Lions jumped to a early lead and held it until late in the final quarter. Lions big guns Steve Stowe and Gary Johnson tried very hard to keep the action from the Hawks' Eric Bennett, but in the final quarter Eric Bennett Ben-nett took over the helm and brought his team from eight points behid to a one point win. Hawks 33, Lions, 32. The Cadets and Nets really had a battle, as both teams had first game jitters and made a lot of mistakes. The Cadets seemed to have the game on ice, but then the Nets would come battling back to either tie or go ahead. The Cadet combination of Holman and Greening finally held the Nets off for a Cadet win. , The final games saw the much larger Celtics fighting for their lives as the small but 'Do I ask what you're going to do with the money when I make a deposit?" )SSEii Underway l ! Finally the height of Celtic's Reed Murdock was just too much for the very hard fighting fight-ing Jets squad. Celtics 33, Jets 23. The Bantam Directors would very much like to thank the businesses of the American Ameri-can Fork and Alpine areas for all their help in making Bantam Ban-tam Basketball possible. When I dashed out to run an errand my car had disappeared. I couldn't be'ieve it. I'd had a hectic before Christmas week; maybe I parked it some other place and had forgotten ... or perhaps I was cracking up. . . the Christmas edition had been too much for me. Oh yes, surely one of the employees had needed it. As I was checking check-ing out all possibilities, none of which I knew would yield anything, and I was just on my way back to the office to report my stolen car when the office girl came running out to tell me the Salt Lake City police just called and said they were holding three juveniles in an El Camino registered to Alpine Publishing Co. I had mixed emotions. 1 would liked to have had the priviledge of reporting a stolen car before those efficient cops reported they had found it. By this time the local police had been informed and came in to see if they could find out any particulars pertaining to the daylight theft. They were informed that the Salt Lake police had captured three juveniles driving an El Camino and were holding them in connection with the killing of an 82-year old man a few days earlier in Salt Lake City. After photographs and fingerprinting fin-gerprinting had been completed complet-ed the car was impounded and Mrs. I and I recovered the car and its belongings (except a Genie and three pairs of shoes) last Thursday. I have no idea what the authorities will do to the three juveniles but I think they should reimburse reim-burse me for $17 for towing mua mm h x CARE UTC Offers EveninsSchool Classes With nearly 150 classes offered of-fered in a wide variety of programs, the Evening School of Utah Technical College at Provo will open January 4 for the winter quarter, according to Dr. Roger Plothow, Utah Tech director of continuing and storage expenses.
