Mountain Bell will invest a record $71.5 million in Utah during 1976 to expand call switching equipment and telephone tele-phone facilities so as to maintain main-tain service standards for existing ex-isting customers while providing provid-ing phone service to thousands of new customers, Mike W. Andrews, Mountain Bell local exchange manager said the phone company must anticipate customer needs and have new service available when it is requested. The utility added 40,419 new phones during 1975, reaching a total of 785,333 for the state at year's end. Mountain Bell will spend $3.2 million for construction of tele- Hospital Installs Computer The American Fork Hospital has recently acquired an IBM Computer to perform its data processing needs. The computer com-puter is designed to process payroll, accounts payable, patient accounts, and to provide financial reports. It was decided that the computer com-puter should be located in the basement. As a result of this decision, some extensive remodeling remo-deling of the north east wing of the basement began in December. The remodeling included in-cluded a computer room, a suite of four offices for data processing and accounting use, and a printing room. In addition addi-tion an adjacent area located immediately south of these facilities was shelled in to serve as a storage for financial and medical records. A hallway runs between these two areas to provide access to them. Ceiling Ceil-ing tile and flourescent lighting was added to make the whole area bright and pleasant to work in. Additional remodeling of the north entry is contemplated contem-plated for later this year. The data processing installation installa-tion is being done in phases. At present, patient billing is completed com-pleted and accounts receivable is being implemented. Other phases will be installed during the next few months. The processing work is being directed dir-ected by Lorin Mathews. Jolee Makin and Mary Milward are also working in data processing. tHGT SCGT G?'ZrZ3 ZOTiS ftCO"" 6CS(S( y SOO East State Road Lohl T-Dono Sfoalt J75 Top Sirloin Stoak $400 Rib Soalx. $JS0 5 Chiclton Fried Sfealt Chiclion Dinner. f bnnmp yinnor All dinners Include soup, salad, potatoes (Mashed or Fries), Roll, dessert: Pie or Ice Cream I New flours 6a,mn p-m- Wookday I it:W ilUUf& 6 a.m.-2 a.m. Weekends S I 10 a.m.-lO p.m. Sundays fft&O fvOTS GCsbJSi f?XC5 GCaJSui ffxc55 SJ2F5 ffCs'f phone facilities in Utah County during 1976. According to Mr. Andrews, the equipment will not only mean improved service for present telephone customers, but will meet the increasing demands of new customers coming to the area. In American Fork, 400 new lines will be added to the call switching office, while 800 lines will be installed at the Spanish Fork office to provide phone service to new customers. Total cost for the projects is $343,000. Mountain Bell will spend $2.3 million in Utah County to extend ex-tend local calling between Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Payson and Spanish Fork exchanges and the Provo-Orem Provo-Orem area. Residents will be able to make local calls between these cities in the first quarter, 1977. Other projects include burying bury-ing 'telephone cables to improve and expand intracity service, and adding microwave circuits for long distance calling for Utah Valley residents. The microwave projects will eliminate eli-minate the need for existing pole lines. In May, the telephone company com-pany will put into service its second major long distance switching center at Provo to process long distance phone calls for all of Southern Utah, including Utah County and Uintah Uin-tah County. The multi-million facility is the first electronic toll office in Mountain Bell's eight-state area. He pointed out that the strength of the nation's telephone tele-phone network lies in its total integration and standardization across the country. The Provo long distance center, for example, exam-ple, will become one of only 150 major toll centers in the nation for switching incoming, outgoing outgo-ing through-traffic long distance dis-tance calls. In 1975, Mountain Bell handled han-dled almost 1.5 billion calls originated ori-ginated by Utahns, a six percent per-cent increase over 1974. More than 58 million of these calls were long distance. Mr. Andrews said the total call figure is more than double the number of calls made in 1960, illustrating the dramatic growth and increased value of phone service in the state during dur-ing the 60's and 70's. The increased calling required the installation of not only telephones, but millions of dollars in call switching equipment equip-ment - the hardware in telephone tele-phone offices that make each phone work. The plant investment invest-ment per telephone was $570 in 1975.
