With him are hospital week committee members Betty McTague, JoAbegg, Creta Blackburn. Absent were Ira Taylor and Margaret Malone. For If you had a choice, would you prefer to reduce your chances to being admitted to a hospital this year? American Fork Hospital is making an extra effort during National Hospital Week, May 9-15, to show you that you do have a choice. There are steps you can take to help ensure good health for yourself and your family in 1976. "American Fork Hospital is there when you need it," said Wayne R. McTague, administrator. administ-rator. "Caring for the sick is our reason for being. But more, teaching our patients how to stay well once they are released, and encouraging people peo-ple in our community to stay healthy, are also important elements ele-ments in our total care." "During National Hospital Week, we are spotlighting several hospital sponsored programs designed to help community residents ensure their continued good health." he said. Some of the community health education programs that the American Fork Hospital is conducting during National Hospital Week are: 1. A Diabetic Clinic, May 10-13, 10-13, Conference Room, 2:00 p.m. 2. Evans, R.N., director of nursing, says, "whenever possible, pos-sible, patients are involved in their own care through patient education. A patient needs to be informed about his or her illness and given adequate information in-formation about how to care for himself following hospitalization hospitali-zation in order to increase the chances of remaining well." Patient education within the hospital includes; audio cassette cas-sette with films and audio teaching the patient about; 1. diabetes - diets. 2. diet and your heart. 3. Glaucoma. 4. breast feeding and 5. catarract. Prenatal Pre-natal classes are also held and run for a six week period. "Health maintenance has little lit-tle to do with the-public's image of glamorous medical miracles," said ; Wayne ,R. McTague, administrator. "It is simply a responsible awareness - and practice - of basic health principles." You owe it to yourself, your-self, he believes, to learn about nutrition, to get sufficient rest and relaxation, to learn how to cope with stress and to follow safety rules. For information and guidance on how you can stay healthy, he advices that you ask your doctor, a nurse, a hospital dietician or the public health department. Once the repository only for the acutely ill, the hospital has extended its resources into the community and today it is the center of health care system. Not only the source of health care, it is the center of education educa-tion and research. And you can help the hospital help you by sharing the responsibility for your health. One of the driving forces behind the founding of this country was a desire for the freedom of choice. Hawaiians think they may soon have a partial solution to the energy crisis, but it won't do the rest of us much good. The Federal Energy Administration Admin-istration reports that scientists in Hawaii are trying to harness the heat of volcanoes to generate gener-ate electric power. They have not yet been successful, suc-cessful, but a research team is about to drill 6,000 feet into the side of Kilauea, the world's most active volcano. If they can find a steady supply of steam or hot water, a generating generat-ing plant could be operating on the site by 1979.
