Show FARM SUPPLEMENT THURSDAY, APRIL 15, 1976 Attention, All Hunter, Sportsmen, Land Owners J Are you one of the expected 70 million in the United States who will be planting vegetable gardens gar-dens this year? Many people see this as one way to individually cope with the concerns of inflation, recession reces-sion and world food shortages. Many also see gardening as an ideal source of personal fulfillment, fulfill-ment, recreation, child training, and family togetherness. Whatever the motivation, experts ex-perts say the millions of gardens gar-dens that will be planted this year consitute an enterprise worth several billion dollars. Whatever motivates you to get in the act of producing some of your own food, whether in a large garden, small garden, spaded sunny corner of the lawn or in a window planter, Dr. Alvin R. Hamson says you will derive much more enjoyment and benefit by seeking out and planting some of the many new varieties that have been developed deve-loped for the home garden. Dr. Hamson, extension horticulturist horti-culturist with Utah State University, Uni-versity, calls attention to a good source of recommendations for growing vegetables in Utah. It's Extension Circular 313 entitled, "Growing Vegetables - Recommended Recom-mended Varieties for Utah," published by USU at Logan. A copy may be obtained for 15 cents from your county Exten sion agent' or from the Bulletin Mailing Room, Utah State University, Uni-versity, Logan, Utah 84322. He also suggests obtaining from one of several plant and seed companies an interesting illustrated catalogue giving descriptions of standard vegetable vegeta-ble varieties and new introductions. introduc-tions. The county agent can give the address of several companies compan-ies that have vegetable varieties varie-ties generally adapted for growing grow-ing in Utah. Dr. Hamson said, "In gardening garden-ing you will succeed directly in relation to the interest you take and the effort you expend to learn some of the techniques. The information on gardening possessed by the experts is available avai-lable to anyone who is sufficiently suffi-ciently interested to learn basic requirements for vegetable production and to carefully observe ob-serve conditions associated with success and failure." He noted that despite the popular notion about the person with the magical green thumb, there is really no magical ability abili-ty which separates the beginning begin-ning gardener from the expert. "The main difference," he said, "is usually the years of experience, exper-ience, coupled with keen observation obser-vation and effort expended to obtain information from those who understand the basic techniques tech-niques of gardening. Regardless of your experience, we encourage encour-age you to join those 70 million gardeners in the United States who are doing something for themselves to help solve financial finan-cial and food problems of our time." The Wild Game Club Inc. needs your help to work toward better management of the planting plant-ing of our winter range. So in the future there is less chance of winter kill. In the past, there has not been enough winter range planted for the deer to feed on. Eventually the deer and elk have starved. With the co-operation of the land owners and the Utah Fish and Game combined, they can remedy this by planting more winter range, along the foot hills, to benefit both domestic animals and deer and elk herds. This is not the only problem we have to face with our wild life. ffipsp to uiffiL "SWT -JWPV - 1 lit M - J U1U Vs Y Two ways to be quick without hurrying. snapper is fast so you can get through fast.
