Show Cavemen Win First Two League Games The American Fork Cavemen Cave-men baseball team got off to a good, but shaky start in Region Six play as they won both games last week against Lehi and Pleasant Grove, both Northern Division foes. In the opener against Lehi, AF head man Roy Pehrson sent tall Ted Frandsen to the mound to pitch for the Cavemen. Big Ted was strong through the first part, as he shut out the Pioneers but tired and was relieved by Allan Jones who wrapped up the 5-2 win for the Afers. Lehi garnered five hits, two runs and were hurt by five errors, while AF belted nine hits for five runs and they committed com-mitted two errors. Shortstop Don Oldroyd led the batters for the Red outfit with three out of four hits. Guy Hampton came up with two singles, one a double and Andy Burgess, Jeff Barratt, Dave Pack and Brian Hansen all had hits for the Cavemen. Frandsen and Jones had ten strikouts, and they issued three walks in gaining the first league lea-gue win. At Pleasant Grove the Cavemen Cave-men came from behind to get a scary win as the Vikings jumped off to an early lead with two runs in the first inning and made them stand up for six innings before the bats of the AF turned around the game. AF won 3-2. Frank Pulley started and Jeff Barratt relieved him as the talent of the AF pitching staff came through. Ted Frandsen who has to be the leading AF hitter in pre as well as league games as he banged out three hits including a long triple that ignited the final inning rally by the Cavemen. Cave-men. Kent Baker was the only other Caveman to get a base hit off the pitching of PG, but Oldroyd, Burgess and Barratt earned runs batted in with clouts. Pulley who worked five innings in-nings and Barratt who came on to earn the win allowed PG only four hits during the game. AF with seven walks and four hits, won the really nerve tingling tin-gling game. This week AF finished the division games with a test last Tuesday against rival Uinta and in crossover games against the Southern clubs. AF is at Spanish Fork today and the Dons should be among the leaders lead-ers down south along with Carbon Car-bon as favorites so this one could be a factor in the final standings. taries.
