Show MINE-MILL RAKES JCENNECOTT The International Union of Mine 'Mill & Smelter Workers Saturday criticized Kennecott i Copper Corp. for laying off em-pkyees em-pkyees in this country while maintaining production in Chile, and proposed a six-point program pro-gram to increase employment in U. S. western operations. After the proposals had been presented to company officiate, a union spokesman reported that they had been turned down. There was no announcement from the company. The union proposals were: That the company immediate- j Iv rescind an announcement of an additional layoff of 1,000 U.S. employees. That the company make a serious ser-ious effort to keep its American employees working. That any essential and unavoidable un-avoidable curtailment of man-, power to be made at least on on equal basis to U.S. and foreign operations. I That after such curtailment has 'become effective, and in the event further curtailment is considered con-sidered necessary, the company agree to institute a 30-hour week .'.t40 hours' pay -for all employes. . That the company immediately suspend ail activities or attempts at job elimination, speedup, con-tracting-cut of work, time studies and incentive schemes. That the company join with mine-mill and other unions concerned con-cerned in urging Congress to adopt necessary measures to protect pro-tect the jobs and income of American Am-erican workers against low wage foreign competition. |
