Show KENNECOTT TESTS ORE CLASSIFIERS Tests are now underway on three 20-inch cyclone ore classifiers classi-fiers installed for experimentation experimenta-tion at the Magna ore concentrating concentra-ting mill of Utalh Copper Division, Divis-ion, Kennecott Copper Corporation. Corpora-tion. P. H. Ensign, superintendent of mills, said the new type classifiers classi-fiers utilize centrifugal force in filace of settling 'by gravity to separate the coarse ore particles from the fine particles, an important im-portant operation in milling. It is necessary that tire coarse ore particles ibe separated from the fine in order that the coarse particles may 'be re-ground to a fjier si2e. Testing of the cyclone classifiers classi-fiers is part of the company's constant search for better and more economical production methods me-thods to meet today's highly competitive copper market, said Mr. Ensign. It wa,s explained that it will profbably require more than a year to complete the series cf tests necessary to determine the advisability of installing this type of equipment throughout the company's two ore concentrating concen-trating mulls. .Meanwhile, an experimental rod mill is currently being installed in-stalled at the Arthur 'Mill as part of the company's search for better bet-ter and more economical production produc-tion methods. The mill utilizes steel rods instead of iron 'balls to grind ore. It is expected to under go initial tests early this year. o |
