I hat afternoon, we were walked by a stack of M-l rides, ri-des, bandoliers of ammo, and hand grenades. We were told to leave any of our 'O.Ts over in ii slack, and pick up an M-l and as many hand grenades as we wanted. That night, we were trucked forward. We finally got up to where we relieved the 3rd Division and the 4 .It h Division. A Gl led us to a hole in the ground, where two Cil's were waiting for us. As they picked up their stuff to leave, 1 asked one of them, "I low far are the Germans Ger-mans out there?" I le said, " lf)0 yards, but they've Ixien real quiet." At broad daylight, there we were in a hole in a barnyard, just waiting for an attack. We spent eight days there without attacking and without being attacked the Germans were there, and we were there. The policy was eight days in a foxhole, then four days off on reserve, where you could get out iind move around. During those eight days, we didn't have our bxts off. When we were relieved, we walked three or four miles to a vineyard, where foxholes had been ready-made for us. I was looking forward to taking my boots off. A company kitchen had set up a coffee and doughnut dough-nut line for us. and the guys were all standing there smoking, smok-ing, drinking coffee, eating doughnuts and talking. All of a sudden, faintly in the distance. I heard a German airplane, and that bothered me. Something said to me, "(ret in the holes" (I had received re-ceived a blessing that I would be prompted in case of dangers dan-gers So I got in the bole and pulled my blanket over me. I hadn't gone to sleep when the German airplane went into a dive, dropped a personnel bomb that detonated in the air. and then dropped a row of bombs that went off when Ihey hit the ground. The bomb picked up that line of men, and I heard the men holler, "I lit the hole!" When it all became quiet, I heard someone holler, "Medic! Medic!" Maybe this shows my age a bit because often times I will catch myself saying to our children ... "I remember when ... " Most recipes I have are recipes reci-pes that I can relate a memory with. I remember the smells of food, the place where I first found the recipe and the way it makes me feel when I eat the finished product. I am finding find-ing now days that I am not enjoying the food as much as I am enjoying the memories of the food and the history that comes with the recipe. I am not enjoying food as much mainly because the sweet little angel that will be arriving at our home within just a matter of weeks is taking tak-ing up too much room! I will remember this time in my life as a memory, and I am sure (he foods that taste good and I am able to oat will be a s' "ry that this new baby will hear in the years to come. The recipe I would like to locaC Schools need to be on equal footing We recently read an article in the "Lehi Free Press" stating stat-ing that Alpine School District "hopes" the school population at Lehi High reaches 2,400 before the school splits, so that they can then offer all programs at both schools, such as AP, at risk, foreign language, etc. This disturbed us greatly. Does this mean that our children are punished if they go to a small high school? Does this mean that the only way to receive these programs is to endure overcrowding? over-crowding? In the six years we have lived in Lehi, our children have lived through very crowded junior high and high around. ( khlwr 3ht 1 7Aw il 'A A EM JL J. Every time I would make this recipe in the years past, he would always be the one to enjoy it the most. Now when I make this recipe for our children, I am teaching them about the importance of taking one day at a time, remembering that life is not as serious as what we take it, and that we have all time in the world, and not to rush everyday, but to enjoy every minute. These are the things that grandpa has taught me. So, I will not make this recipe ever schools. At some times there were more students in the classroom than there were seats or room for them. The halls are so crowded they can not maneuver through them. It was so bad at the junior high that the staff was forced to increase the passing time. We have huge admiration for the great administration administra-tion and faculty at these two schools, and know that our children have received a good education. However, we are not pleased with the consistent consis-tent attitude that permeates the district leadership and the mind-set they have towards the northern part of the county. Have they even been out to look at the continued immense im-mense growth and immediate need we have here? There are many people moving into this area and all of these children chil-dren will hit the junior high and high school sooner than they are prepared for them. Is this statement regarding numbers just another form of prejudice against those of us that live in this part of the county? Why do our children not receive the same programs pro-grams that our tax dollar's pay for as those who go to a jl y jl m LfifilL LIKE NEW: 2 beds, 1 .5 baths, over 1 200 sq ft in Northeast Orem, new carpet, new paint, $2,500 in incentives incen-tives and a 1-year home warranty. We have watched as they funnel our money away from us and our children to make "showplace" schools that do not benefit us and only benefit ben-efit an elite few. How many exercise rooms are really necessary in one school when children can't even sit at a real desk in another? Is all this "fluff" really necessary while good educators continue to struggle in our "non-show place" schools and thrash about attempting to educate our children? We believe the time is now and ardently encourage the school district to take an honest hon-est heartfelt look at their personal per-sonal attitude, their resulting actions, and the consequences they are having to everyone's children in our part of the county, and that they decide to act now on the demand rather than ignore it.
