Rarely however, does that game-changing play come just five minutes into the first quarter. Lven more uncommon is when that momentum shifter comes on a big hit by a defensive defen-sive back. Craig Bills provided his team with the gamebreaking hit Friday Fri-day night, helping Timpview overcome two quick turnovers to thump Mountain View, 49-17. 49-17. After a fumble and interception intercep-tion on the T'Birds' first two plays had the Bruins up 3-0 and in position to score again, things were looking bleak for a normally dominant Timpview squad. "We were stunned that we turned the ball over like that," Bills said. " The defense knew we had to make a big play and pick our offense up." It didn't look like that play would come anytime soon. Boulter made the big play of the drive with a ,'52 -yard reception to help set up his last -second field goal attempt. Lamb ran the hall twice for 12 yards to bring the Tigers to the Timpanogos .'5-yard line. After a false start penalty pushed the ball back to the 8-yard line, a Boulter kick hit an upright for the second time in the hard-fought hard-fought game. Orem scored three times in just over a two-minute span in the third quarter to take a short -lived lead. Receiver Ixtndon Lloyd hauled in a 31-yard pass from Hamblin with 7:24 left in the quarter. On the next series, the Tigers forced a punt which Steve Warner blocked and Tyler Grunig recovered on the T'Wolf 1-yard line. Three plays after Bills' hit, quarterback Quinn Mecham fired a 65-yard bomb to receiver re-ceiver Mark Ercanbrack, who outran two defenders for the T'Birds' first score. Orem finished off the impressive stretch of third-quarter third-quarter play when Jeff Mella intercepted a Stewart pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to put the Tigers up 25-21. Timpanogos responded when Fairbanks hauled in his second touchdown of the game from two yards out to put the T'Wolves up 27-21. The key play of the drive was a seven-yard seven-yard pass from Parker Brown to Richins for a first down on a fake punt. Although the Tigers made it exciting in the end, Timpanogos led the rest of the way. Orem got a big day from I lamblin who finished with 305 yards passing and three touchdowns. touch-downs. Lamb had several runs in which he simply refused to go down. "Give credit to Orem and Lamb; he was a beast to tackle," tack-le," Molen said. Taylor Lyons had a solid day for the T'Wolves, finishing with 109 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Lyons had multiple runs where he appeared ap-peared to be stopped in the backfield but changed directions direc-tions and made something out of nothing. "We don't teach that, Molen said. "1 le's just such a great athlete that he gets away with doing tilings that you really shouldn't do and it's all because of his speed." Timpview head coach Louis Wong. "That's what Timpview does well when our defense creates turnovers, we look to . score." And Wong's T'Birds did exactly ex-actly that the rest of the night. Timpview went on a tear against Region 7's hottest team, shredding a fatigued Mountain View defense to score 49 unanswered points. Mecham led the offensive barrage all game for the T'Birds. Not only did he run for a 40-yard touchdown, the senior picked apart the Bruin secondary for three touchdowns touch-downs on 264 yards passing. Mecham's big night was thanks in large part to Ercanbrack, Ercan-brack, who was on the receiving receiv-ing end of six of those passes for 142 yards. "Quinn thr ew the ball well for us tonight," Wong said. "He and Ercanbrack have worked hard all summer and they definitely have some chemisty going now." With Timpview's offense firing on all cylinders, the defense de-fense turned up the tempo as well, shutting down the offense of Region 7's hottest team. After getting a quick field goal to start the game, the Bruins failed to score until late in the fourth quarter. Anthony Heimuli scored from two yards out, then Garret found Greg May for a 26-yard pass in the latter stages of the game. "I was pleased with how we played and I really liked how our defense responded early," Wong said. "Mountain View hadn't played a high-caliber team like us but I give them a lot of credit. They have three wins and their coach is doing a great job with the program."
