She has lived in northern ( alilnrnia most of her life. She worked as a bookkeeper and also owned two jewelry stores. She inducted into the International I )ireclory of Distinguished Leadership Lead-ership in the year of 1!W0. I ler parents were Gilbert and 1 lizabelh Myers. She has two sisters, sis-ters, Reva M. White and Jeanne M Blackburn and had two brothers broth-ers Marion and Grunt. She moved to American Fork H s ears ago, to live with her sister. On Sunday, September 23 from 2 00 to 5:00 p.m.'there will be an open house in her honor. It will be held at Keva's home, 442 South 200 Fast, American Fork. Hetty is the youngest child of Niels I'eter and Matilda Stagg Christiansen. With her 9 brothers and 2 sisters she spent 13 years riding her horse, playing with her clogs and feeding the baby lambs on a ranch in Ibapha, Utah. She then came back to American Fork with her parents where she graduated from high school. After World War II she married her high school sweetheart, G. Reed Matthews, on I ebruary 13, 1940. Together they raised five children, Dawn (Brian) Dellart, Teresa (Richard) Griffin, Glenn (Mary.Io) Matthews, Jullee (Jeff) Webster and Kevin (Mary Jo) Matthews. She is a grandmother to 16 grandchildren grand-children and 20 great-grandchildren with more on the way. With Reed by her side they served two full-time missions to Rochest er, New York and six Family History Missions in Salt lake City. They moved to Lehi where Reed passed away in 2004. Betty is presently enjoying doing her own family research, working in her yard and keeping up on her raspberry patch. She is a wonderful example to us all! We love you! No gifts please. Happy birthday Dad! We Ixwe you. i Orem Senior Friendship Center Orem seniors have been invited in receiving garden produce from the "Share the Harvest" program. The trailer is parked at the south end of the Orem Senior Friendship Center parking lot and is open daily until 3 p.m. Membership is required to participate in any of the Orem Senior Friendship Center classes and programs. Cost for center membership is $3 per year or $25 for a lifetime membership. More information on the center is available at 229-7111. The center office, at 93 N. 400 East, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Trips and tours Seniors are allowed only to sign up for themselves and a spouse or a senior-aged friend. Current Orem Senior Friendship Center memberships are required for all participants on the tours. Sign-ups for October trips will be taken in September. Wendover Turn-around The small bus leaves on Oct. 10 at 8 a.m. for a Wendover excursion. The one day turnaround turn-around will cost $8. He will speak in a sacrament service Sunday, September 23 at 12:50 p.m. in the Timpanogos 2nd Ward, 800 N. 100 W., Pleasant Grove. Elder Shoell will enter the Johannesburg Jo-hannesburg Missionary Training Train-ing Center on October 4. Transportation departs on Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. for Sandy at the Southtowne Expo Center for the Senior Expo. Cost is $1. Once Upon This Island Hale Centre Theatre in Salt Lake City features "Once Upon This Island" on Oct. 27. Bus leaves at 11:30 a.m., and cost is $22. Other news Community dance Class Reunion Band will entertain at the Orem Community Dance on Sept. 22 from 8-1 1 p.m. at the center. Blood pressure clinics A blood pressure clinic with Dignity is tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Entertainment The Old Time Fiddlers will be playing beginning at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Other entertainers are Don Schaefer on the organ on Monday at noon, Jo Walkowiak on the piano Wednesday at noon, Mary Christiansen on the piano Sept. 27 at 11a.m., Sept. 28. Louis Johnson on the organ at 11 a.m. and Wendle Eagar on the sax at noon. Variety Show Seniors will participate in a variety show on Monday at noon. More information is available at the center. Luncheons Those who haven't been to the center lunch for a while - Heritage Care Care to R Spencer Petty Elder Spencer Paul Petty, son of Paul and Jill Petty of Orem, has been called to serve in the Illinois Chicago South LDS Mission. He will speak in the Aspen 8th Ward, 1485 N 800 W, Orem, on September 23, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. He will enter the Missionary Training Center on October 10, 2007. Spencer has nearly completed his Associates of Science degree at UVSC and previously earned his Duty to God Award and Eagle Scout Award. Upon returning return-ing home, he plans to major in psychology and own his own practice. are asked to call one day in advance so enough meals for those attending can be provided. The suggested donation for the meal is $2 for 60-plus seniors and $4.90 for those 59 years old and younger. The suggested donation for salads is $2.25 for seniors older than 59 and $5.65 for those 59 or younger. Mountainland Association of Governments and the State of Utah fund the senior lunch program.
