PJ. Phillips hit a ground ball to Fie at third base. Fie tried to tag Knazek running to third, but missed and by the time he threw to second Rivera was safe. But Or em couldn't take advantage of Missoula's mistake. Shankle flew out to shallow right field and Bambino Bam-bino grounded into a double play to end the inning. The Owlz got some help from the Osprey again in the third. Bourjos walked to start the inning. Mount put down a sacrifice bunt that Missoula pitcher Jordan fielded and tried to get the speedy Bourjos Bour-jos at second. He was too late. Since that worked so well, Kotchman decided to try it again. Nieves bunted down the third-base line that Nor-berto Nor-berto fielded and tried to get Bourjos at third. Once again he was too late. But Norberto got Petttt to hit and infield pop up and got Knazek to ground into a double play. "The game wasn't lost in the ninth inning. It was lost in the second and third when we had bases loaded whh nobody out and don't score." Kotchman added. "You can't squeeze with the bases loaded, you can't hit-and-run, what do you do? We have to do something." Attendance Continued from Page S nice to see fans on their feet whh two outs in the ninth inning." in-ning." Both Pace and Gaudin hope that this season's success with attendance will only get better. "I'm not from here, but what I've seen is a community communi-ty that is maybe not as baseball-aware as other places," Gaudin said, "But I think it looks very good when 3,500 people show up for a game, and it's a very positive sign for the future." Orem rapped out 17 hits and took advantage of three errors by Casper. Ryan Mount, PJ. Phillips and Robert Shankle led Orem with three hits each. Phillips homered and drove in four runs, Shankle homered, doubled and scored twice and Mount had two doubles and three RBI. Jeremy Haynes pitched five strong innings to get the win for Orem. He allowed only two hits, one earned run and struck out eight. He improved to 1-1 on the season and lowered his ERA from 3.3 to 2.77. Monday's game I Orem 2, Missoula 1: For Tom Kotchman and the Orem Owlz, there's no place like home. Following a rough road trip that had the team staying in questionable lodgings and struggling to hit, the Owlz bounced back with a victory on Monday evening after taking tak-ing Sunday off. "We needed the day off yesterday yes-terday really bad," Kotchman said. "It was the road trip from hell. The hotel we stayed at in Idaho Falls was so bad that I wouldn't let my dog stay there. We got half our players out of there after the first night and the rest the next day. If it wasn't the worst hotel ever, then it's the second worst." The return to home and a good nights sleep for the Owlz allowed Orem to overcome another an-other night of weak hitting, as the Owlz benefited from a solo home run from Ryan Mount and a game-winning RBI from Climbing Continued from Page 6 don't know what they're doing do-ing wrong. Then they move to consciously incompetent, where they can recognize their mistakes. ' "The next step is being consciously con-sciously competent, as they concentrate and do it right. Finally they get to the unconsciously uncon-sciously competent level, when they start doing it right because they've practiced so much it becomes natural" That progression is why beginners be-ginners need to work with experienced ex-perienced climbers to avoid serious se-rious problems, Tino said But even though it's tough to reach the highest level, more people are discovering the rewards of getting up the walls. "I think the future is in the fact that more kids are getting into it," Pedersen said "1 think the youth participation is going to explode because every kid climbs, whether it's on furniture furni-ture or up trees. It's a rewarding reward-ing sport that's not as competitive competi-tive as some of the others that kids get involved in." Pettit was the only Owl with a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and two walks, but it was Mount who kicked off the Owlz' night with a home run in the bottom bot-tom of the third inning to give Orem a 1-0 lead. Missoula's Justin Brashear tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning and both teams struggled after that, with Orem failing to benefit from 12 walks and leaving 1 1 runners on base throughout the game. "We haven't hit all year number of dates brought to the spot for a relatively easy climbing climb-ing activity. However, the best climbing is at The Billboard, according to Pedersen. The wall was named after Bill Boyle in 1990, who had helped originally bolt the climbs, Pedersen said Others: Provo Canyon, Hobble Hob-ble Creek Canyon and Dry Canyon all have some rock climbing. Tino suggested that those vith limited practice that are looking for new challenges chal-lenges might want to check out the Schoolroom in Maple Canyon. Pedersen also highly recommended recom-mended climbing in Canyon, saying any route in that area is great. Pettit followed with a short hit to left field that saw Missoula left fielder Daniel Perales attempt Rock climbing basics 1. Use good judgment: No matter what level of climber you are, you need to have the proper training and experience to scale a wall. Climbers in Utah have to think clearly and know what they're getting into. Be aware of loose rock and don't overextend yourself. 2. Never climb without equipment: Every year someone makes the news for falling and getting seriously injured or killed because be-cause they thought they could climb without rope or harness. Don't take the risk Make sure you have the proper gear and that someone in the party knows how to use K correctly. 3. Train the muscles in climbing gyms: Climbing uses muscles most people don't even know exist, and the sport requires a variety va-riety of techniques. Climbing walls at places like The Quarry can get muscles prepared and the mind trained for going up walls in the canyons. 4. Go with people who climb: Surrounding yourself with people who know what they're doing, particularly when you're a novice, means you get support and improve your chances for an accident-free experience. Rock climbers are generally a tight fraternity frater-nity and will do whatever is necessary to get their friends to the top of the wall. Rely on experience, especially when you're just starting out. 5. Push the limits: Don't be satisfied with getting to one level. Always Al-ways look for a way to improve and don't be afraid to take on the next big challenge. Even the best climbers know there's always a tougher problem, a taller wall or a wider overhang to get up. Sometimes you'll fail, but when you succeed, the feeling of accomplishment ac-complishment will make all the effort worth it. j METAL ROOFING & SIDING! ch In Stock! - No Waiting!
