Beattie has served in the Utah State Senate since 1989. Beattie has been a guest speaker and lecturer lec-turer locally, nationally, and internationally. in-ternationally. He has served as Senate Majority Whip and Majority Major-ity Leader and was President of the Senate from June of 1994 until June of 2000. Beattie chairs the Utah Athletic Foundation and is a member of the Salt Lake Olympic Committees (SLOC) Executive Ex-ecutive and Management Committees. Com-mittees. The council is a uniquely effective means for the chamber to address its legislative legis-lative and political needs. Through the GRC the chamber is able to directly influence matters mat-ters of public policy that have an effect on our business community. commu-nity. Despite a relatively unthreatening session in terms of business issues, the Government Govern-ment Review Council was able to accomplish several things. The GRC took a stand on four issues: Property Tax Appeals, Semi-conductor manufacturing, Provo Telecommunications and a Kuhni's relocation package. The GRC helped achieve the desired outcome on each issue.
