Show eKiocrafs Elect Ilolthvay Dennis Holdaway was named chairman of the Demoncratic Party at their convention held recently. Serving with him will be Donna Crane, vice chairman; Vera B. Nielsen, secretary, and Ted comer as treasurer. Dennis has been active in several campaigns and has had a keen interest in politics all of his life. Employed for the past 16 years at Geneva Steel, he also is president of the Steelworkers of America Local 2701. He is a graduate of Pleasant Grove High School and has attended BYU and CSU. For 11 years he served in the Army reserves. He is married to Carol Dexter and they have four sons. Mrs. Crane has served as state and county delegate and was a volunteer for the Wilson and Huish campaigns. She also is a volumteer Pink Lady at Utah Valley Hospital. She is a graduate of Provo High School and has lived for the past 25 years in Springville with her husband and family. Mrs. Nielson has served as chair vice chair, secretary and treasurer 'of Voting District 26 in Orem. She is coordinator of the OremProvo area voting districts. Last spring Vera retired from public schools where she had been media center coordinator. She taught at BYU and U of U. She is active in community affairs. Married to Leland Nielsen, she has one son. DENNIS HOLDAWAY Democratic Party as Voting District chairman, precinct chairman and county and state delegate. He served as treasurer for the past few years. He also has served as a roving Registrar registering over 500 voters and delivering over 350,000 pieces of mail during election time. He is employed at Geneva and has served as chairman of the Legislative and Education Committee of Local 2701. He has served as a liaison between the Democratic Party and all labor unions in the county. Senior Citizens Announce Tours A waiting list for the Canadian Rockies Rose Festival tour leaving June 9 is being taken at Orem Senior Friendship Center, 93 N. 400 E. For information or to be place on the list please call 224-7111.. , An all new tour to Hawaii also is planned for January. The tour will include Hawaii, Honolulu, volcanoes, Polynesian Cultural Center, Market Place Punch Bowl Carter, China Town, LDS Temple, water falls and beaches, etc. Brochures will be forthcoming. A few seats are available for the San Francicso tour leaving July 10 and the Denver Tour in August. Brochures are at the center. No phone reservations will be accepted. Golden K Kiwanis Club meets each Monday at 10:15. Tuesday is Health Screening Clinic from 9 until Children Write Original Stories What makes a good children's story? Who knows better than children. For the past few weeks, Miss Holley's sixth grade students of Hillcrest Elementary School have been busy writing and illustrating their own children's stories. After long hours of creating their masterpieces, they were given the opportunity to share their creations with some of the first grade children. It was an exciting learning experience for all those children involved. noon. Wednesday is the Matinee Dance with Papa's Parlor Pickers from 10:30 until noon. Thursday is Orem Senior Harmonica Band Matinee Dance from 10:45 until noon. Ceramics Class is Friday at 10. Seniors are invited to all events. Lunch is served each day at noon with pool, cards and quilting each day. A special event is a Saturday Night Ball from 8 until 11 featuring live music. Best Dress is required. All seniors are welcome. Miracle pageant Auditions Set Anyone interested h crying for a part in the annual Mormon Miracle Pageant should be at the Manti LDS Seminary building at 7 p.m. next Thursday or Friday, June 2nd and 3rd, according to Mrs. Helen Dyreng, Assistant Director. Mrs. Macksene Rux, Pageant Director, will be arriving in Manti on June 1st to conduct the try-outs. Rehearsals for the mid-July production are slated to begin immediately following the try-outs. Mrs. Rux will be assisted again this year by Mrs. Dyreng, Mrs. Jane Braithwaite and choreographers will be Mrs. Merilyn Jorgenson and Mrs. Tawny Olsen. Spring Classic Queen Crowned Miss Kimberly Dalton, 13 years old, was crowned 1983 Spring Classic Queen on Saturday, May 7 at the Jaycee Building in Pleasant Grove, Kimberly is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dalton, 1090 East Grove Creek Drive, Pleasant Grove. Miss Teresa Ann Newman, 10 years old, 1983 Winter Classic Queen crowned the new queen and was the honored guest for the pageant. Miss Valene Taylor, 13 years old, was , named first runner up and also recieved the Best Sportswear and Best Fancy Dress awards. Miss Becky Anderson, 12 years old, was named second runner up and received the Miss Congeniality award. Other contestants were Mindy Holdaway, Katrina Janet Adams, Cindy Lyn Ellis, and Jeanna Allen. Summer classes will begin Thursday, June 9, at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Instruction will include modeling techniques, interviewing, proper pageant attire, talent selection, and make-up. A pageant will conclude the modeling course, but is optional for those who want to compete. Contact Pleasent Grove Recreation Department at 785-6172, if you are interested. Both the 1983 Winter Classic Queen, Teresa Ann Newman, and the 1983 Spring Classic Queen, Kimberly Dalton will be appearing in area parades as part of their reign.
