"We can't get around to everyone because the district is simply too big. But we still hit the neighborhoods and I believe the people like it that way." He was joined on his campaign "blitz" by members of his family, including his wife, Julie; his son, Jim; and his daughter, Jean. Other members of the campaign cam-paign team were joined by supporters from the Orem area. Nielson's chairman in Orem is Mr. Bartley Day. Matheson Proclaims Emergency Medicine Week Over 82 million visits were made to emergency departments in 1980, and this number continues to grow. As the United States becomes more and more a transient society, Americans are relying upon emergency departments depart-ments for many of their health care needs. Do they know what to expect when they enter an emergency department? depar-tment? Do they know what emergency medicine is? Do they know that the physician treating them is a qualified specialist? Should they know this information? ... At some time, their lives may depend on it. September 12-18 will be declared Emergency Medicine Week by Governor Scott M. Matheson to provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about this aspect of health care. The event is sponsored by the American College of Emergency Physicians. Emergency physicians are specialists who provide this treatment, treat-ment, as well as aiding all other patients who seek medical care in an emergency department. The severity and extent ex-tent of all patients' injuries in-juries and illnesses are evaluated in the emergency department. Patients with life- or limb-threatening illnesses or injuries are seen first, which may result in a delay for a patient with a sprained ankle. Emergency physicians undertake extensive training in emergency medical care. The American Board of Emergency Medicine administers a comprehensive com-prehensive certifying examination to emergency emergen-cy physicians who are adequately trained and prepared to enter the field of emergency medicine. The board certifying cer-tifying examination was first offered in 1980, and there are currently 684 board certified emergency emergen-cy physicians in the United States. Emergency physicians also must participate in continuing medical education programs, which enable them to keep abreast of the most current advances in healthcare.
