A gift Orem High from Salt Lake's Sister City of Matsumoto, Japan, the exhibit displays the work of Dokuzan Takahashi, a leading Japanese author and researcher. "Dosojins" will be on display through October 15 in the gallery, located in the Council's offices at 1)17 E. South Temple in Salt Lake City. The scrolls, or Takuhons, as these paper, copies are called, were produced by Mr. Takahashi from the dosojins which abound on the roadsides in the Matsumoto area. Dosojins '; are carved stones, usually poetry in combinations: with god and goddess-like figures, which were thought to provide a good harvest and happiness, or protection from hunger, poverty or the plague. In the past they were worshipped by the poor in anticipation of a coming future life. Mr. Takahashi has executed the Takuhons by placing paper over the carvings and then transferring the stone image by rubbing with India ink. 'J " Last call to get in the phone book!
