Neither is the child who has been playing within earshot all day and now has a funny bump. The bite feels like a pinprick, so expect the child to cry. The bite will almost always take place in a dark cobwebbed place such as a window well or basement. Black Widows don't seem to like to come into rooms that are used by the family any more than you would like to stay in the places in which they like to live. Almost anyone can recognize the Black Widow. It's a shiny black spider with a red month warranty 2 years. 9.9 Interest Lease Money Available on Lincolns, Mark IVs Continentals Plus Many More Used Cars USED CARS Tom Sumner Sam Liner IS hourglass shape m the underside of its large stomach. There is little local reaction to a Black Widow bite, but if one looks closely, two small fang marks will be seen. After a while, if sufficient venom has been injected, stomach and trunk pain and muscle spasms, nausea and vomiting, shortness of breath, and headache develop. . WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUTA BLACK WIDOW BITE? A bite is usually serious only in small children or the elderly, but if you have reason to believe anyone has been bitten, take him to the doctor. ARE ANY OTHER SPIDERS POISONOUS? All spiders are venomous to some degree, but fortunately, most have fangs that are too small to penetrate human skin. Occasionally a local spider will get the fangs in deep enough to raise a bump, but the only spider which is cause for concern is the Brown Recluse spider. The Brown Recluse spider is also known as the fiddle-back spiders because there is a mark shaped like a violin on its back. It is shy and rarely seen (hence the name "recluse"). HOW DO I RECOGNIZE A BROWN RECLUSE BITE? In contrast to., the Black Widow, the bite of a Brown Recluse is usually "not" felt, and no fang marks are seen. There is some mild stringing at the site of the bite, and occasionally a deep pain may involve the whole extremity later. After several hours, a blister appears over the bite. Over the next 36 hours, the skin around the blister dies and turns black. At this point-when one sees a blister (or the smalj, ulceration where a blister has burst) surrounded by discolored, stiff skin-it is recognized that a venomous Brown Recluse bite has occurred. oc-curred. WHY IS A BROWN RECLUSE BITE SERIOUS? The dead skin at the site of the bite shoughs to form a steadily enlarging ulcer. This entire area of involved tissue must be surgically removed, or the entire arm or leg may be lost. SAVE THE HASSLE, SEE THE KING Woodis Named tlev; Orem High Forum Editor Margaret Woodis has been selected as the Editor-in-Chief for the Orem High "Forum" for next year according to Mr. Garrett, advisor for the school newspaper. "We're glad that Margaret could accept this position," said Garrett. She's been on the staff for two years and has done an excellent job as a writer and th..-. year as editor of the front page." "This year's staff has been an interesting one to work with," continued Garrett. "Because of the efforts of this year's' staff, we should do better in national competition than the second place rating we got for 80-81. Other members of this year's staff who will be returning next year are: Steve Hansen, Mark Byrnes, Mary Lou Western, Dean Mason, Branden Miller, Patrice Hoyt and "The Munchkin" (Dave McCann). Garrett stated, "With this many people returning, we'll have a good strong core of people in key editorial positions, as well as having experience in photography and advertising." "Besides the returning staff members, we'll have an outstanding . group of new people coming onto the staff. The new people were chosen because of their ability to write as well as their general ability. These students have all received outstanding recommendations from their teachers." The new staff members include: Rhonda Taylor .Shauna Pusey, Connie Watts, Sarah Nelson, Alan Davis, Richard LaBaron, -Jon Bradshaw, Nanette Rasband, Natalie Ficklin, Glenn Williams, and Todd Briggs. Woodis said, "One of our primary goals for next year will be to meet our deadlines and be able to get the paper out on time with less hassle. Even though we've got the paper out on time this year, there was usually a mass panic during the Hospital has a beginning-level beginning-level program on home assessment and management of injuries. "Also, I'd like to have better coverage of the school and more features in the paper for next year," continued Woodis. "The one thing I'd like the paper to do most is to beat Tooele and Brighton as the best high school newspapers in the state so Mr. Garrett can relax a little more. Since our staff next year has more experience in newswriting than the other two staffs I've been on, we should be pretty good. Besides, so many kids coming back, we'ved picked up some excellent people for the staff. I think the paper will be good," concluded Woodis enthusiastically. Margaret is the daughter of Charles and Barbara Woodis. Utah Crop, Weather Summary Although the number of hours spent in the field was slightly shorter than a week earlier, good progress was made in spring field work on Utah-farms Utah-farms last week, according ac-cording to the Utah Crop and Livestock Reporting Service. Corn planting doubled the previous week's efforts, but remained much behind a year ago. Small grain plantings were nearing completion, and some of the tender vegetable crops were going in. Snap beans were about 50 percent planted and about 6 percent of the tomatoes were set out. Crop growth, however, was very slow. Light early morning frosts " were, noted in almost every county. Winter wheat and alfalfa growth averaged less than an inch during the week. Emergence of spring wheat and barley was 10 to 20 percent behind a year ago. Fruit producers were still trying to access the quantity of fruit lost this year to winter and spring frost damage. The first flight of the codling moth was noted in southern fruit growing areas. Other orchards will not be far behind. Range feed growth was short on the western ranges. Early season grasses, and the ever present "cheat grass" were heading out-only 2 or 3 inches high. Ranchers Ran-chers and stockmen have delayed placing stock on the spring ranges to' allow more feed growth. ORE!
