Show Chris Strong Receives resfigious USAA The United States Achievement Academy announced today that .Christopher Sumner Strong has been named a " 1982 United States National Award winner in Speech and Drama. This f; award is a prestigious ; honor very few students " can ever hope to attain. In fact, the Academy recognizes less than 5 .percent of all American 1 high school students. Chris, who attends "Orem High School, was nominated for this -national award by Neal -Barth, drama coach at - the school. Peterson School in American Fork, has been appointed to Alpine School District staff as coordinator of Special Education. Brady will coordinate and articulate all special education programs within the district. Also, he will be responsible for program development for special education and .staff supervision. He has been a teacher, counselor and administrator at Orem High School, Principal for two years at American Fork Junior High, and eight years as Principal of American Fork High School. In 1977, Brady took the reigns of the Harrington Special Education Center and recently moved to the new Peterson School for special children as head administrator. As a Professional Educator for 25 years, he is well qualified for this new position. He said, "I want to continue the excellent programs in special education and make curriculum improvements." im-provements." Mr. Brady sees a need to budget funds carefully to insure that students obtain the best possible education for the money available. A native of Utah, Brady graduated from Snow High School in Ephraim. Brady has served 13 years in the military for his country, both active duty and active reserve. Seven of those years he was an infantry company commander in Provo and Pleasant Grove. Chris has shown an interest in all areas of theatre and currently is president of the Drama Club at Orem High School He has been in many plays and assemblies and received first place at Region in competition and also placed first in the Utah County Fair in scenes from plays. He has been the author, director and choreographer chore-ographer of several shows, has performed in California and has given many charity performances. In addition he is active in the LDS Church. Christopher Strong is the son of Clyde and Sylvia Strong. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Sumner of Orem, Utah and Mrs. Harriet Mower of American Fork, Utah. . 1st Ward Plans 20th Reunion With a cast of 80, newfound new-found talents and even more enthusiasm and courage, members of the Orem Firsjt Ward organized the "Gay 90's" 25 years ago and set out to raise funds for a new ward building. Some 50 performances later they had raised about $5,000 and had succeeded in having the best time of their lives. That "new" building is 20 years old this spring and the members are holding a 20-year reunion with a revival of some of the specialty acts of the show (sometimes referred as Gaslight Varieties), 'and will feature members of the -original cast. The reunion will be May 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the lst-24th Ward building, 225 E. 200 N.,'Orem. All adult members and former members are invited. Refreshments will be served. Teams participating represented the following events: mono-acting, scenes from plays, pantomime, dramatic interpretation, and humorous interpretation. in-terpretation.
