Brand, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brand, also of Orem, on Firday, May 7 in the Jordon River LDS Temple. A wedding breakfast will be held following the ceremony at the 36th Ward Chapel. A reception will honor the couple from 7 to 9:30 p.m. that evening at the Orem South Central Stake Center. Bridal attendant's will be Laura Jensen as maid of honor, and Laura Simpson and Kerri Brand as bridesmaids. Amy Simpson will be the flower girl. Dr. Ralph Larson, coordinator, said subjects will range from family investments to family counseling and include such topics ' as strengthening marriages, being more effective parents and preparing for retirement. "There are many influences working against the family in today's world and many families are - striving to achieve greater unity and solidarity," Larson said. "This conference .is designed to give them the' help they need." Bown, of Midvale, Utah, will pledge marriage vows May 7 at the Schonwald Terrace in Orem. A reception will honor the couple following the ceremony from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., also at the Schonwald Terrace. Parents of the betrothed couple are Mr. and Mrs. John H. He currently is employed in Murray where the couple will Knit Wits Seminar To Be Held An extremely fast growing group of machine knitters in Utah Valley form a unique club known as the "Knit Wits". The club, lead by Paula White, president, have announced the date of their spring Machine Knitters Seminar to be held Saturday, May 15, 1982 in Orem at 1255 North 1200 West (the Utah Valley Archery Center building). Classes and exhibits will be held all day, to be followed in the evening by a fashion show which will feature the garments produced by the knitting club members. The public is invited to attend. Shirley McKibben of Ogden, who has demonstrated knitting machines throughout the intermountain area, will be a special guest demonstrator. Mrs. McKibben has just returned from a trip to Japan where she made a tour of factories which manufacture knitting machines. She expressed great delight in the opportunity op-portunity to view the latest developments in machine knitting techniques and knitted fashions. Other demonstrators will include: in-clude: Iris Ashby of Orem and Erma Argyle of Provo. The craft of knitting by machines is gaining in popularity with both men and women as they see how quickly high-fashion knitted items can be made. According to Iris Ashby, knitting machine distributor, there exists an endless variety and number of things that can be produced on a knitting machine with a relatively small amount of time invested. In addition, the cost of such items turns out to be far less than garments of equal quality purchased in a store. There is no charge for the program. The stage band is directed this year by Daron Bradford and they have had a highly successful suc-cessful season. Wes Barry will conduct the other three groups as they perform selections from their Spring repertoire. The symphonic band was recently honored as the outstanding band at the Region VII band festival. One of the judges commented that the band is "one of the very best in the Western United States." The trophy received was the eleventh in a row and 18 out of the 19 times it has been awarded. Officers of the band are Mike Davis, President; Tami Thayne, Vice President; Cheryl Aitken, Secretary; and Jill Johnson, Historian.
