"Energy Week" Successful At Orem Elementary School Orem Elementary School held a very successful suc-cessful "Energy Week" the week of April 20. The week was planned to make students more aware of our energy resources, where they come from, and what they can do to conserve them. Special visitors from Mt. Fuel and Utah Power and Light came and gave presentations in which they showed films, had discussions, and distributed packets of fun learning materials for the children. Tuesday, the kindergarten through 3rd grade students were captivated by a visit from "Captain Energy", who won the hearts and minds of the children with his special energy costume designed after the likeness of superman, his delightful sense of humor, and his trick light bulb and burning peanut experiment. ex-periment. All children willingly took an oath at the end of the presentation presen-tation to become members mem-bers of Captain Energy's Cadet Club and promised to conserve energy at home and at school. Special energy-man T-shirts T-shirts and Star-Wars posters were given to some lucky students in each class who assisted Captain Energy in his demonstrations. . A re-cycling fair was held during the week nd students displayed their creations , for the studentbody. Radios, piggy-banks, flower vases, popsickle-stick houses, collages and "junk art" were among the interesting projects entered. "Take That, You Monster," a special puppet show on energy, was performed by some students from Mrs. Roberts 5th grade class. Children who watched the show learned that the ."energy monster" could be subdued by wise conservation of energy in their daily activities. Teachers taught lesson plans on energy throughout the week to reinforce re-inforce learning activities on energy. Children learned that there is much that they can do to help conserve our natural resources if they are more aware, and make their families more aware, of daily energy-saving energy-saving activities. .akeridge Ledger This Friday Lake-ridge Lake-ridge will hold their ninth grade party at Lagoon.
