LOWRY HARRIS Shoulder Arm Can Be Back Nearly everybody has a friend nicknamed "Old Aches and Pains" He, or she, is seemingly always complaing of shoulder, neck and arm pain. . . and is not necessarily "old". What is this individual problem? We put this very question to Dr. Lowry Harris of the Harris Chiropractic Center. "Let me draw you a picture first," says Dr. Harris, 'And then I'll come back to specifics." "When you see a person with badly rounded shoulders or stooped over, you are seeing 'old aches and pains' who has not sought treatment for his or her condition, but who has rather let the condition grow progressively worse." D r. Harris points out that shoulder, neck and arm pains constitute some of the most deceptive de-ceptive problems known. "People just don't seem to get excited about twinges of pain in the shoulder, neck and arm,". "They content themselves with self-treatments such as liniments lini-ments such as liniments and ointments and apparently figure their's is a problem one simply has to live with." Stoicism is hardly the answer, the good doctor points out, since the condition may be resulting from progressive spinal disorders disor-ders and postural decay of the upper back and neck. "As I've said, this is a deceptive decep-tive condition, Dr. Harris notes. "In the very early stages symptoms symp-toms are usually limited to soreness sore-ness and a feeling of fatigue across the top of the shoulders. This well could be followed by burning pain across the shoulders should-ers with pain and stiffness of the neck." ' The early symptoms are considered con-sidered to, be due to tension and stretch-weakness of the " shawl DR. ANTOINE HARRIS & Neck Pain Aching muscles of the upper back and neck. What will happen to treatment is effected? "If the condition is allowed to continue development, the spine and associated shoulder structures struc-tures become compressed and gradually shift to abnormal positions," pos-itions," according to Dr. Harris. "The victim then begins to assume a round shoulder posture and the pain becomes prolonged and more intense." As the spine becomes compressed com-pressed and disorted, the tiny nerve openings between each pair of spinal segments become partially closed. Dr. Harris points out that this causes the nerves to be irritiated and pinched pinch-ed as they exit the spine. It is in this stage that the symptoms of nerve irritationde-velop. irritationde-velop. According to Dr. Harris these symptoms include numbness numb-ness and tingling in the hands, arm pain, neck pain and painfully pain-fully restricted shoulder movement." move-ment." Chest pain may develop and become so servere that heart disease is often suspected although al-though the heart is not the culprit." cul-prit." Experience has shown that shoulder, neck and arm pain syndromes, which are due to structural spinal disorders respond re-spond readily to specialized care. "If a person would only seize their opportunity for effective treatment of shoulder, neck and arm pain, many postural ailments ail-ments could be averted," says Dr. Harris. "And it is needless pain, I might add. Yet some people seem to take joy at the pain and pity that come easily to them." Dr. Lowry Harris and Dr. Antone Harris maintain an office at 1250 So. 350 East, Esplanade-Suite Esplanade-Suite 38, Orem. paid advertisement The blood pressure clinic for Senior Citizens will be held this month on May 21.
