The Varsity match begins at 7:30, preceded by the Junior Varsity Var-sity and sophomore matches at 6 p.m. Next Tuesday the Tigers host the Spanish Fork Dons with the Varsity match at 5p.m. preceded by the 3:30 bouts for the JV's and Sophomores to bring back old memories with the old region Four competitor. The season is so young that Coach Fred Rowland does not know much about West except that they were fifth in state last year while Orem took fourth. Coach Rowland is familiar at West since his team there won a state championship several years ago while he was head coach there. Against a good Cottonwood team, the Tigers lost the first bout but then won six in a row followed by a pin by Jeff Nielson over Miles Stewart in the 155-pound 155-pound division to put the Tigers ahead 28-9. Even with three potential pins in the final matches, there was no way for Cottonwood to win. The Orem HighSchoolbasket-ball HighSchoolbasket-ball team, showing improvements each game, will try to break above the .500 mark tomorrow night when they host the Spanish Fork Dons at 7:30 in Tiger Gym. Last weekend they lost to High-next High-next evening to whip American Fork, 60-53, at home. The Tigers have a re match with the Cavemen at American Fork, Safurday night at 7:30. The Junior Varsity game begins at 5:30 both nights. Spanish Fork is a young team, according to Coach Harry Anderson, An-derson, with a 6-5 center and a new coach this year. "They are always competitive and should give our team a real test," observed Coach Anderson. Since the first game win over Tooele, the Tigers have been without the services of forward-center forward-center Robert Louder who sustained sus-tained a back injury when he slammed into the wall attempting to retrieve a loose ball. Coach Anderson doesn't know yet if Louder will play in the two games this weekend, and next weekend's two games are the last pre-league contest before the Tigers meet Granger on Dec. 20. Coach Anderson was disappointed disap-pointed with the team's performance perform-ance during the first half of the Highland game when the Rams had a 44-22 halftime lead. But the Tigers came roaring back to score 50 points in the final 16 minutes of play with 25 points in each of the last two quarters. A better defense and offense proved the difference plus out-rebounding out-rebounding then 33-27 for the game. Against American Fork at home in a 5:15 ballgame, the Tigers really put everything together to-gether to play their best game of the year thus far. They but-rebounded but-rebounded a much taller team, 36-32. AF's front line is 6-8, 6-7, and 6-4. The Tigers played very good ball against American Fork, and I'm happy to see them show the improvement they have since the-first the-first game," observed a happy coach after the game. However, Coach Anderson didn't relly show that happiness until Jeff Brimhall sank some free throws in the final minute to really ice the game that had been close all the way. The Tigers didn't buckle under pressure pres-sure of playing a taller team. . The Tigers went out to a 19-10 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter on three driving layups by guard Todd Williams and two ; close-in jumpers by center Todd ; Anderson. But then AF's fine ' shooter Randy Rhodes went to work for five fieldgoals and eight free throws to help close the gap to 34-32 at halftime for Orem. Balanced scoring in the third ' period by Orem extended the lead to 47-43 at the end of the third quarter while Rhodes was shut off to one field goal in that period and no foul shots. Baskets by Williams, Rod final period in addition to some clutch foul shooting pulled out the victory for the Tigers. . . n I. J i.i K .) The basic difference in the game was the hustle and defense as -well as some fine passing. Williams was top scorer with ; 18 points, followed by Anderson and Jeff Brimhall with 12 each, .
