Show Well, the computers at Fort Campbell, Ky. have finally met their match. The data processing equipment was functioning without with-out any trouble until a new man reported for duty. And that's when the fun began. The punch cards that feed data into the computers are set for names with a maximum of 18 characters. That may be enough for you or me, but not enough for the new man: Allenzio Ro-oseveltause Ro-oseveltause Abuelwhippingstraw. There are 39 letters in his name. The project is about to get off the ground. The Army is making available a helicopter amublance from Ft. Sam Houston, Tex. for this joint Defense-Transportation Department study. Most of the helicopter support is expected to be for highway accident victims vic-tims in a 10-county San Antonio area. Just another example of how an Army innovation has civilian application. FOREST FIRE FIGHTER Another civilian application of the Army helicopter has to do with fighting forest fires. The 21st Aviation Battalion at Fort Sill, Okla., working with a civilian firm, has developed a 'bucket that holds 1000 gallons of water and hooks to the underside of Army helicopters. During a recent forest fire in Lawton, Okla., fire fighters found that they couldn't go near the burning area because of the intensive in-tensive heat. So, they called the Army's fire fighting helicopter. It dumped a total of 3000 gallons of water on the burning trees to cool them down so that the fire fighters could move in and put out the fire. FACTS ABOUT THE ARMY DID YOU KNOW -That the Army is authorized only 150,500 officers? -That the traditional helmet is on its way toward becoming a much lighter and more comfortable com-fortable oart of the soldier's equipment. Some of the lighter prototypes now being tested have been completely redesigned from the World War II-type helmet now in use. The Army's aim is to reduce weight by 50 per cent. QUESTION Does the Army pay for the. college tuition of soldiers and WACs who study after duty hours? ANSWER: Yes. The Army pays 75 per cent of the tuition costs for servicemen and women who conduct con-duct classes right on Army posts, and most Army posts are located near colleges. KNIGHTS IN ARMOR The officers and enlisted men in the Armor branch of the U.S. Army use tanks instead of horses and shields and gunfire instead of lances. However, we still like to think of them as our "knights in shining armor There are many opportunities for men who would like to become Army tankers. You might learn to operate or repair one of our big tanks. Or, you might be the man to fire the big guns or load them as a crew member. If you would like more information in-formation on how you can become one of Uncle Sam's rugged tankers, tank-ers, drop down and seeus. We're located at 100 West 100 North in Provo, Utah and we are on hand from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Scout who was denied Eagle Rank because he was thought to be an' atheist, may qualify after all. Chief Scout Executive Alden G. Barber, professional leader of the 6-million member B.S.A. issued a statement today that Jimmy Clark of Foster, R.L will appear before a Board of Review next Saturday to determine de-termine his eligibility for Eagle Rank. Barber said, "After reviewing re-viewing a statement made last night by young that he can subscribe sub-scribe to the Scout Oath andScout Law, we concur with the action taken by Scout Executive Robert Parkinson who has forwarded the boy's application to a Board of Review to be conducted by the Narragansett Council." The Board of Review is composed of volunteer Scouters who review all applicants for advancement in rank. The controversy developed when Parkinson delayed the boy's application for Eagle Rank after the father had stated that the family members were atheists. "In order to be members of the Boy Scouts, boys need to affirm that they subscribe to the principles of the Scout Oath and Law, and it now appears mat -young Clark has confirmed this by his statement", said Barber. Barter emphasized that the Boy Scouts of America believes that no boy can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing recog-nizing his obligation to God as expressed in the Oath and Law. 20 ACRES FOR LEASE 9 acres fruit trees, 11 vacant. 400 North 1100-1200 East, Orem. Oltf 'Ambassadors' Greet Visitors To SUSC Campus Instead of wandering around, trying to discover the feel of Southern Utah State College for themselves, visitors at SUSC are met by members of the Ambassadors, Ambas-sadors, student school hosts. "The Ambassadors were organized or-ganized last year to create hospitality hos-pitality and friendship on campus," camp-us," said Shauna Jepsen, co-chairman co-chairman of the 43 member group. We lead campus tours for visiting individuals and groups and meet visiting athletic teams," she said. "We've talked to high school students about SUSC on a student stu-dent to student basis. It's a lot of fun and the kids we talk to are really impressed," Miss Jepsen Jep-sen continued. SUSC Ambassadors are chosen on the basis of their enthusiasm and dependability. Advisor is Jim Robinson, Director of College Relations. Participating in the Ambassador Ambas-sador program from Orem are Janice Liston, who also is a committee head, and Joyce Liston.
