Show Atlas Arrives At Health Spa A muscled Atlas bearing the weight of the world on his shoulders shoul-ders was raised last week in front of the new European Health Spa, 703 South State inOrem. The statue was made by a Minneapolis firm and shipped via interstate highways on a boat trailer, giving travelers along the way an interesting preview of a bronzed torso in route to Utah. Atlas, bearing the globe, is the international trademark of the European Health Spas and will be the second such statue to be raised in Utah. The first one is located in front of the Spa in Ogden, while the Spa in Salt Lake City is statueless. The bronzed, reinforced fiberglass statue is worth approximately $10,000 and will tower some 20 feet above the new Spa now nearing completion. comple-tion. Admiring this collosal work of art is pretty, Nancy Haag, one of the instructors at the new Spa, and Robert L. Rice, president of Health Industries, Inc. Between now and opening day, the new Spa will be lavishly decorated and equipped with some $100,000 worth of passive and active exercise equipment. There will also be a Turkish Steam Room, Finnish Rock Sauna, Danish Dan-ish Cold Plunge, a medicated steam room to clear the sinuses, and a Nero's Nectar Nook featuring featur-ing vitality by the glassful. Charter memberships are now available, according to Byron Smith, manager of the Utah County Spa. symbolic of the physical fitness the Spa encourages in its members. mem-bers. Hopefully, all the male members will soon be looking like Atlas, and all the female members looking like Venus. Well.....at least, it's something to shoot for. r8 TVft H: hi) vj' THEFTS REPORTED Wayne Leavitt, 1115 E. 800N., reported to Ore m police the theft of a chain saw from his garage. 'Moratoriums' May Help Utah Taxpayers County budgets are now being prepared . throughout the state. Commissioners in 29 counties are considering record requests that will determine next year's levels of spending and of taxation. taxa-tion. If spending goes up, so will taxes and taxpayers will have to foot the bill, according to the Utah" Taxpayers Association. If past trends foretell the future, fu-ture, the outlook is grim for the year ahead, the Association says. Counties take a huge bite of the total state property tax - 18 percent this year to be exact. Of an estimated $154,303,500 total tot-al property taxes charged this year, about $29,118,000 will go for county purposes. In 1960, only $9,300, 405, or 10.7 percent per-cent of the total went to this level of local government. This is an increase of $19,817,595, or 213 percent in just ten years, the report shows. To aid county officials to "hold the line in 71', Utah Taxpayers Association recommends: 1. A moratorium on hiring of newem-ployees. newem-ployees. 2. A moratorium on initiating expensive new programs pro-grams or projects. 3. A moratorium mora-torium on granting large unnecessary un-necessary across-the-board salary increases. 4. A moratorium mora-torium on initiating new Federal Fed-eral programs. Kenneth White To Attend Data School SAN DIEGO - Navy Seaman Apprentice Kenneth P. White, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. D3b Horse Killed Wien Trailer Overturns A horse was killed instantly Tuesday evening when the trailer in which it was riding overturned at 1345 E. 800 N. in Orem. Investigating In-vestigating officers said the pickup pick-up truck pulling the trailer was driven by Barbara Taylor, 545 by CHARLES DICKENS That man must be a misanthrope indeed in whose breast something some-thing like a jovial feeling is not aroused - in whose mind some pleasant associations are not awakened by the recurrence of Christmas. There are people who will tell you that Christmas is not to them what it used to he; that each succeeding Christmas has found some cherished hope, or happy prospect, of the year before, dimmed or passed away; that the present only serves to remind them of reduced circumstances and straightened incomes of the feasts they once bestowed be-stowed on hollow friends, and of the cold looks that meet them now in adversity and misfortune. Never heed such dismal reminiscences. There are few men who have lived long enough in the world, who cannot call up such thoughts any day in the year. Then do not select the merriest day of the three hundred and sixty five for your doleful recollections, but draw your chair nearer the blazing fire; fill the gluss and send round the song; and if your room be smaller than it was a dozen years ago, or if your glass be filled with reeking punch instead of sparkling' wine put a good face on the matter, and empty it off-hand, fill another,' and troll off the old ditty you used to sing, and thank God it's no worse ... Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has many not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some. Fill your glass again, with a merry face and contented heart. Our life on it, but your Christmas shall be merry, and your New Year a happy one. Christmas Is Special Time of Of Year Every season, each holiday of the year brings some kind of change into the pattern of our lives. But, of all the days, in summer, winter, spring, or fall, there is for everyone a most favorite of all. It is, of course, the Christmas. We are captured by the spirit of Christmas long before the holiday arrives. The commercial aspects, the bright streets, decorated windows and well-stocked store shelves these are obvious witness to the fact that Christmas is soon coming. But, the real change is something that takes place within the heart and the spirit. It touches first the very young. It comes to the school scene. It reaches out to the older community. Some grasp it eagerly; a few, reluctantly. But even the most persistent per-sistent die-hard eventually becomes captive to the mood, throws away a year-round frown, walks with a sprightly step and offers a merry greeting to all the world. As the holiday grows nearer, the spirit of warmth and happiness, brings to each individual opportunity to share in the most magnificient moment of all time the birth of Jesus Christ, the Redeemer. This is the essence, the origin of anticipationthe an-ticipationthe realization that God sent his only son unto the world. E. 100 S., Pleasant Grove. Mrs. Taylor told officers she was attempting to pass a slow moving car when she noticed the car signaling to make a left turn in front of her. She then hit her brakes causing the trailer to , overturn. She was traveling east on 800 North at the time of the accident, officers said.
