Evans At the Sharon stake quarterly conference held on April 13, 1947, the Sharon stake was divided divid-ed into two stakes; the Sharon stake to embrace the ward of Edgemont, Grand View, Lake View, Pleasant View, and Timp-anogos. Timp-anogos. The new stake was named Orem stake and included the wards of Geneva, Sharon, Vermont, Ver-mont, Vineyard, and Windsor. Elders Ezra Taft Benson and Mark E. Peterson of the Council Coun-cil of the Twelve presided, as a new stake presidency was sustained sus-tained in the Orem stake consisting con-sisting of Walter R. Holdaway, president; E. Carlyle Bunker, first counselor; and M. Dover Hunt, second counselor. Lavor P. Kocherhans was sustained as stake clerk. One of the special activities that will long be remembered by the stake members is the annual an-nual stake outing held at Wolf Creek summit where many of the stake families joined together in an overnight camp out. Many stake festivals were also held where the stake members enjoyed en-joyed a carnival, a tasty dinner, and a fine program with the proceeds pro-ceeds of the affair usually going to the betterment of our stake welfare farm. The continued growth of the stake in the ensuing ten years resulted in an increase in the number of wards from the original or-iginal five wards to eleven. As our stake population increased to over 9,000 members, it was determined de-termined on November 3, 1957 that the Orem stake be divided and thus the Orem West stake was created. This division was part of the conference business held under the direction of Elders George Q. M. Dover Hunt.who had served for over 10 years as a counselor in the stake presidency, presi-dency, was sustained as president presi-dent of the Orem stake with Eli K. Clayson as first counselor, and Ray R. Louder as second counselor. J. LaMar Johnson, who had served for the nine previous years as stake clerk, was again sustained in that position. posi-tion. The stake then consisted of the following wards, some of which had been renamed and given numbers: Orem First, Orem Or-em Second, Orem Sixth, Orem Seventh, Orem Tenth, and Orem Seventeenth. The division left the wards of the Orem stake with inadequate meeting facilities but the members met the chal-lange. chal-lange. New chapels and additions to existing chapels were constructed con-structed and now adequately meet the needs of this still rapidly growing area. The stake population popula-tion now exceeds 7,100 members mem-bers in the thirteen wards which now comprise the Orem Stake. The Orem Stake welfare farm, located East on 1600 North, has developed into a model farm that all citizens of Orem can be justly proud. It consists of 144 acres of general farm land and orchards, along with poultry and beef projects, needed to fulfill ful-fill its requirements to the Church welfare program. It plays a vital roll in our area as the produce and production of crops becomes a part of the Church programjo care for the needy "and unfortunate. Each year the young men of our stake look forward to the special Aaronic Priesthood banquet ban-quet to which they alternate in viting their mother and father. This past year over 800 were in attendance to enjoy a fine dinner and an inspiring speaker. speak-er. The young ladies also look forward to a similar special occasion each year. In recent years, the Fathers and Sons overnight outing at Lodge Pole camp in Daniels canyon can-yon has become a memorable experience that old and young alike look forward to. Leaders of the wards and the stake are to be commended for the special efforts they put forth on these occasions which bring the heart beat of the parent and the youth together and strengthen the bonds' of the family members. . When one tries to contemplate the numbers of people who have had an influence for good in the events and history of the Orem stake these past 22 years, it becomes an awesome task. Two stake presidencies and several clerks, 43 high councilers, 41 bishoprics and clerks, untold numbers of stake auxilliary officers of-ficers and board members, and ward officers and teachers too numerous to mention; all have etched their name on the scroll that has become the history of the Orem stake. www THE HAPPENING QUALITY USED FURNITURE 354 North State - Orem - 225-3237 OPEN GEORGES CONOCO 397 South State - Orem - 225-6406 FASHION CLEANERS Pickup and Delivery Service One Day Service 608 North State Orem - 225-2179 W K ft V&MVY 1 mm m m w "ta U I 1 11 j ft r -pnoBUuk m - a r .4 m i mm 'Straight from the horses mouth ECKERT'S BARBER SHOP Orem's Finest Relaxing Atmosphere - Quality Grooming Escape from the Ordinary 755 North in uic vi uuiai v i , th State Orem 30th Word MIA Mystery Play Orem 30th Ward MIA will present pre-sent 'The Phantom Bells a mystery comedy in three acts, on May 13 at 7:30 p.m. The 30th Ward is located at 150 E. 600 N.
