The tour, under the direction of Miss Jane Thompson, left the United States after a five-week tour of the Southern and Eastern East-ern portions of the country. They flew north to perform for U.S. Servicemen in Greenland, Labrador, Labra-dor, New Foundland and Iceland. "When we arrived at Thule Air Force Base, Greenland, said Miss Thompson, "it was midnight, yet we walked off the plane into dazzling sunlight. At this time of year, the sun never goes down and they have daylight 24 hours a day. "Even with the sun constantly shining, the temperature never gets above 45 degrees," Miss Thompson said. They were met at the plane by base personnel who presented them with furlined parkas which they wear almost everywhere. Before leaving Greenland for Goosebay, Labrador, the group was taken on a side trip to the Greenland Ice Cap on a snow tractor. The Ice Cap is over 175, 000 square miles deep in places. The base commander at Goose-bay Goose-bay invited Miss Thompson to dinner. He said he "appreciated the real talents of the performers and the wholesome show". The students exhibit a spirit and zest for performing that is refreshing.' refresh-ing.' The troupe will perform at air force bases in New Foundland and Iceland before returning to Provo. The increase in dairy price supports on July 1st which was absolutely necessary in order to prevent severe shortages should have brought no more than a one-half one-half cent increase per quart on the retail end. In many cases throughout through-out the country milk prices have been increased three to four times this amount and attributed to the increase in farm price supports. sup-ports. The same situation is now developing de-veloping with respect to wheat. One pound loves of bread have been going up two, three and four cents a retail levels. The mid-July mid-July wheat price was 49 cents per bushel above the support rate of $1.25. Since one bushel of wheat is enough to produce 68.4 one pound loves of bread, the maximum rise in retail bread prices justified by the rise in the market would be only seven -tenths of one cent.Yet, here again, the retail price rise is being attributed at-tributed entirely to high farm returns. It should be noted that there is a time lag between the purchase pur-chase of wheat by the miller and the sale of that wheat as bread at the grocery counter. Substantial amounts of wheat have been in the hands of millers and bakers each time market wheat prices have gone up. If wheat purchased in June is being sold in bread today, to-day, the justified retail price increase in-crease would be only one-half cent, since the market averaged only 34 cets above support in June. Bread containing wheat pur chased in May, when the market was only 19 cents above the sup port, should be less than one- third of a cent per one pound loaf higher than when wheat was sell ing for $1.25. Adult Education Enrollment To Rise Once Again Some authorities contend that when the adults who will be returning to learning this fall are added to school and college enrollments, nearly, half of the population may be' counted. Difficulty in estimating the number to be enrolled in classes class-es for adult education arises from the vast number of special spe-cial classes set Up independently indepen-dently by individual industrial and business organizations Evening Shows 7:30 & 9:30 NOW PLAYING starring That "Man of the West" in an cuiiing ncn imc: : Col.rrin WROHIIIBM i ffom tlw twMl by WILL JAMES i V SCERA Saturday Matinee Open 1:00 Show 1:30 3:30 & 5:30 PIONEER Second Feature "The Music Man" Starring Robert Preston - Shirley Jones and Buddy Hackett J. 4 ' .v!? - was ' MB Hff t m :f It ...5jLf Sunday Worship To Include Discussion Of 'Soul' Soul" is the subject of the Bible Lesson-Sermon to be read in all Christian Science churches this Sunday. The broader rounded toe-line toe-line is to be seen in most shoe styles for college men, including includ-ing the brogue, casuals and other shoes designed to add dash to the daily grind. Many collegians like a touch of the brogue in their slip-ons and oxfords. For others, there are neat oxfords in smooth, cordovan or lightly grained leathers, with simple straight or wing tips. In saddle oxfords, dark-on-dark tones retain their popularity. popu-larity. Styling for soft leather slip-ons spotlights handsewn stitching, gored insets, straps, buckles and tassels. The motorized 'coach, decked out as a car of the Rock Island line, will bring Professor Harold Har-old Hill, in the form of Broadway Broad-way star Art Lund, to River City, Iowa each night, August 8 through 20, in the Valley Music Mus-ic Hall's production, The Music Man. The show, which is set July 4, 1912, in the imaginary town of River City, Iowa, is the story of a salesman of band instruments instru-ments and uniforms who convinces con-vinces the town it should provide pro-vide a civic band to keep youths from becoming wayward. But it took more than magic or "the think system to construct con-struct scenery for the great Meredith Mer-edith Willson musical comedy. The red and yellow coach has a canopy and sets the stage for the 1912 era in which the show is set. Besides the coach, Mr. Anheier has made a lattice like, flower bedecked bandstand for the show's finale, as well as the interior of Marian's Library, which is a suggestion of book stacks.
