Producers counter they cannot can-not afford to pay writers more because production costs have increased and changing economics econom-ics and viewing habits have made it tougher to recoup investments. Like Hare, Dean worked for a customized van company and got back into airbrushing after a 20-year absence. He worked in construction and makes silver and turquoise jewelry, so he naturally enjoys being creative. In a studio he built out of Styrofoam, Dean was busy working on his airbrush projects. He now recognizes colors and sees everything as a picture he can create into art since he started start-ed the junior college class. "This is my stepping stone to learn how to create a show bike or customized motorcycle," Dean said. "I'm in my own little world when I'm doing this. It gives me a chance to individualize my art."
