BASDEN Of the Record staff Every year, Park City High School AV Club, under the direction direc-tion of instructor Chris Maddux, presents the Miner Film Festival, a showcase of work by student filmmakers. film-makers. . The popular event highlights all genres film - any length - ranging from sports to comedy. So far, between four and five movies have been submitted including one from AV Club President Jeff Guay. "Lifted," written and directed by Guay, is considered an offbeat comedy come-dy with eccentric characters. The film stars fellow students Pat Knudsen and Pat Flaherty with Guay also making an appearance. According to the creator, "It's a little different, but I think its still going to be entertaining for the people." Hunter Metcalf, a filmmaker with the Salt Lake City-based Spy Hop Productions, a non-profit youth center cen-ter specializing in multimedia arts, is also among those working on a piece for the festival. Although ' this is the first time Guay as run the show, he has submitted submit-ted work both as a freshman and as a junior. Each time he has participated, he recalls receiving generous support ; from the community. Participation in the Miner Film Festival is not required, but provides the opportunity for members of the community to see what kinds of work students can create with the tools and instruction they have been given. . Guay has nothing but praise about the instructor that has helped shaped a program that allows students stu-dents to explore the art bf filmmaking filmmak-ing and the use of audiovisual mediums medi-ums to communicate any desired message. "Mr. Maddux has just created an awesome program out there. It's just another way for kids to show off their work. People have talents and there is no reason to keep your talent hidden. Every time I have been in the film festival there has been a great reception. It just a really fun thing to do." The Miner Film Festival will be held April 14 at the Jim Santy Auditorium, 1255 Park Ave in Park City, at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
