Show WedThursFri, December 3-5, 2003 The Park Record A-11 STUDENT Behind the Scenes By DAVID GITLIN Record Intern On November 13-15 and 17. the Park City High School Department of Music and Theatre came together for a production pro-duction of the great American musical, Oklahoma. I was cast in this show as Jud, the dimwitted bad guy. and will offer a few "fly on the wall" insights into the events that occurred behind the curtain. Ahem. Unknown Oklahoma Fact 1: ' Patric Knutsson, who played the lead role of Curly, was sick during dur-ing every single performance. This illness affected his throat and threatened his ability to sing properly. To manage this ailment, he ingested or inhaled every cough drop and lozenge known to man before he performed. Fact 2: Rehearsals were often long and tiresome, requiring P.C. Academy First Qtr. The four-year study will follow more than 600 workers from Utah, Wisconsin, and Texas to determine risk factors for low back pain. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Texas A&M University will collaborate col-laborate on the research. "This study will be designed to sort out what .really causes low back pain from rather strongly held opinions," opin-ions," said Kurt T. For example, the guys pretended to be a rowing team behind the rolling hills, while the girls sang one of their numbers. I, myself will confess to replacing the postcards post-cards I handed to Curly with sentences sen-tences of questionable nature. Fact 3: The microphones placed on each lead were not only fed to the audience, but to the headsets of a few members of the stage crew, as well. As a result, the leads' conversations could be heard despite their belief that the mics were turned off. This proved to be extremely embarrassing, ,. . . , Fact 4: At the end of each performance, the boys and girls dressing rooms would each perform per-form a final number of their own. The boys crooned Queen and KISS songs while the girls loudly Raven Brewer, first Susie Carroll, first Anneke Cimos, first Alex Jackson, first Taylor Porges. first Jared Robinson, first Kincaid Townsend, first Maxwell Wageck, first Anthony London, second Elizabeth Longshore, second Blake Schlentz, second Ben Schloesser, second Julie Steppen, second Adam Hill, second Katherine Brown, second Chloe DiCesaris. second Mac Townsend. second Christy Bythrow, second Carter Bructt, third Paul Robinson, third Benjamin Belfort, third back pain and the study's epidemiologist and co-principal investigator. Fact 5: My stubble was mostly stage makeup. Sorry, ladies. Fact 6: During the auction scene at the final performance, the money Curly raised added up to be $62 dollars, not $53 as the script suggested. It was only later, after curtain call, when one of the chorus members pointed out the mistake. We were quick to remind him that many students enter the drama program because of poor math skills. Unfortunately for the cast, many members of the audience noticed. Fact 7: In order to maintain years of PCHS Drama tradition, the entire cast would gather in the center of the choir room, place their hands in the middle and loudly exclaim "go Bayside" before each performance.
